Mohammad S. was sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison for striking killing twin brothers with his car while the brothers were traveling on an electric scooter. The 24-year-old convict also left their friend without a leg after dragging him. The verdict left the twins’ mother in tears as it was read.
Federal auditors posing as ordinary visitors were able to walk through secure Canada Border Services Agency facilities without identification, access confidential documents and view travellers’ passport information, according to an internal audit.

On political party funding, this week’s new rules seem clear. You may collect immense amounts of money from trade unions if you are a political party protecting the interests of trade unions. But if you don’t enjoy the largesse of the unions and are a party of business, you are not allowed to receive money from people who have done well in business. Furthermore, the Labour party’s in-house brainiac, Angela Rayner, has made it clear that any person who does give large sums of money to a party that is not her own can be described as a ‘foreign dictator or fascist oligarch’. Which is also apparently not slanderous. Got it.

STRASBOURG, France—Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is attempting the most dramatic reorientation of his country’s economy and international alliances since Ottawa entered a free-trade agreement with the U.S. almost 40 years ago.
On Thursday, he used an address to the European Parliament to insist that his efforts weren’t aimed at creating a third bloc “to become a great-power rival—only with better manners.”
Nobody would deny that the situation was tragic.

Mexico appears to be moving closer to an interim trade agreement with the United States. It was reported last week that negotiators are accelerating discussions in hopes of reaching a deal before the U.S. midterm elections in November.
No agreement has been announced, and significant differences remain. Talks reportedly focus primarily on automobiles, steel, aluminum, American content requirements and Chinese investment in Mexico. TORONTO — A new report by RBC says just over half of Canadian parents with adult children say they are still helping them out financially with expenses including groceries and rent.
The report says 51 per cent of parents with adult children aged 18 to 40 surveyed say they provided financial support in the past year.
Of those helping out, 56 per cent say the money was to help pay for groceries, while 43 per cent have helped with an unexpected or emergency expense.

Unifor national president Lana Payne is warning that Stellantis is “100 per cent serious” about exiting its Brampton assembly plant and she is asking Ottawa to step in and prevent its sale to Canadian armoured vehicle maker Roshel.
With Stellantis and Unifor still at an impasse just days before their collective agreement expires on Sept. 20, Payne said at a press conference on Thursday that thousands of auto jobs could be permanently erased.
“Stellantis is looking for an exit, and no one, no one, should be holding the door open,” Payne told reporters Thursday. “This would make Brampton the first auto plant to fall in this trade war. And when plants close, they rarely, if ever, come back.”

WASHINGTON — The White House came out swinging Thursday against a United Nations-sponsored investigation that found “reasonable grounds” to conclude the US committed war crimes in Iran.
The fact-finding mission stood up by the global body’s notorious Human Rights Council said that the US should pay “full reparations to victims” of two attacks that occurred on Feb. 28, the first day of Operation Epic Fury, at a school and a sports complex in southern Iran.
“The UN Human Rights Council has accomplished nothing for human rights while spouting unserious nonsense for decades,” said White House principal deputy press secretary Anna Kelly.
