Liberals confident deal with NDP to keep them in power will hold until June

Government House Leader Karina Gould said Tuesday she’s confident the NDP supply-and-confidence agreement that keeps the Liberal government in power will hold until its expected end date in June 2025.

That agreement, first signed in March 2022, allows the government to carry on without fear of falling on a confidence vote. If the two parties abide by the deal, there would be no federal election until next summer at the earliest.

Canada’s fixed-date election law dictates that a vote will happen in October of next year — but the prime minister could call one earlier than that if he wanted.

Infamous race-baiter and MSNBC weekend host Al Sharpton lashed out at Republicans and Congressman James Comer (R-KY) during Monday’s Morning Joe, because the latter expressed concern that Democratic vice presidential nominee Governor Tim Walz (MN) was elected by and promoted anti-capitalist special interests, including China. According to Sharpton, the GOP ideals Comer was promoting were somehow racist and “as outdated as bell bottom pants.”

An international manhunt for one of Canada’s most wanted men – suspected of a bodybuilder’s murder – has ended at a four-storey block of flats in Luton.

Adrian Gordon, 24, went on the run after the murder in May, with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police warning the public he was ‘armed, violent and dangerous’.

He was suspected of first degree murder in regard to killing champion bodybuilder Jesse Tubbs, 30, who was found shot in a drugs hotspot.

Violent offenders let off if they say sorry

Police are increasingly letting knife and sex offenders escape prosecution if they say sorry, The Telegraph can reveal.

More than 147,000 people accused of offences including sex crimes, violence and weapons possession were handed community resolutions in the year to March, instead of being prosecuted. Such resolutions do not result in a criminal record.

Police guidance says community resolutions should be restricted to low-level crimes, with offenders required to apologise to the victim, accept “responsibility” for their crime and offer some form of recompense.

Toronto EV driver can’t use closest overnight charging station because of permit restrictions

A Toronto-based Uber driver spends nearly half an hour most days walking back and forth between an on-street electric vehicle (EV) charging station and his home.

John Chen says he could cut that walk down to eight minutes each way if the city allowed him to use a closer charging station in his neighbouring permit parking zone.

He can’t charge his EV at home because he doesn’t have a designated parking spot and relies on street parking.

Despite living on the edge of his own parking zone near Coxwell Avenue and Dundas Street, Chen says the city told him he can’t get a permit for the other zone to use the closer charger overnight.

The surprise detention of the Telegram founder Pavel Durov in France has raised concern in Russia about a potential impact on its troops in Ukraine, who have come to rely on the encrypted messaging app for communications on the front line.

Two days after the detention of the Russian tech billionaire Russian war bloggers, who are typically quite open about problems in the Russian army, have immediately rung the alarm about Durov’s incarceration. France has arrested “the comms chief of the Russian armed forces”, one popular joke online went.
