REPORT: Italy Scored ‘Gucci Loafers’ Carve-Out In Russian Sanctions
Italy allegedly managed to secure a carve-out of one of its biggest industries in the sanctions the European Union levied on Russia, The Telegraph reported Friday.
“Italian prime minister Mario Draghi successfully secured a carve-out for Italian luxury goods from the EU’s package of economic sanctions against Nato,” Telegraph reporter Joe Barnes tweeted. He alleged that “multiple sources” reportedly confirmed luxury goods were excluded from the package after lobbying from Draghi.

US Capitol riot ‘podium guy’ Adam Johnson gets 75 days in prison
A Florida resident photographed during the Capitol riots with a podium bearing the Speaker of the House seal has been sentenced to 75 days in prison.
Adam Johnson, 37, dubbed “Podium Guy” by social media users in the wake of the riot, was also fined $5,000 (£3,725).
In November, Johnson pleaded guilty to entering and remaining in a restricted building
Convoy protest leader Pat King denied bail
Pat King, one of the leaders of the ‘Freedom Convoy’ protest in Ottawa, has been denied bail.
In ordering King detained, Justice of the Peace Andrew Seymour called King’s alleged actions during the convoy “an attack on the rule of law.”
Seymour said he believed there is a substantial likelihood King would reoffend if he were released from custody.
Ontario Liberals ask LCBO to ban sale of Russian vodka
Ontario’s Liberal Party is calling on the LCBO to ban the sale of Russian vodka as a form of retribution for the Ukrainian invasion.
Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca wrote a letter to LCBO President George Soleas asking him to pull several brands of Russian vodka from store shelves to show support for Ukraine.

Ex-police officers guilty in George Floyd death
Three ex-Minneapolis policemen present at the death of George Floyd denied the unarmed black man of his civil rights, a jury has found.
The officers were charged with showing “deliberate indifference to [Mr Floyd’s] serious medical needs” during the attempted arrest in May 2020.
Tou Thao, 36, J Alexander Kueng, 28, and Thomas Lane, 38, all testified in their own defence in the trial.

Biden: Wait Another Month or So to See if Sanctions Are Working
In yet another… uneven press conference appearance, President Biden’s worst line was, “they are profound sanctions. Let’s have a conversation in another month or so to see if they’re working.”
It’s not clear that President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian government, and the Ukrainian armed forces have another month. Russian and Ukrainian forces are fighting over control of Antonov Airfield, just 15 minutes from Kyiv.

Kerry: ‘I Hope President Putin Will Help Us to Stay on Track‘ with ‘What We Need to Do for the Climate‘
During an interview with the BBC released on Wednesday prior to Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry expressed concern that a war in Ukraine would have “massive emissions consequences” and divert attention from climate change and stated, “I hope President Putin will help us to stay on track with respect to what we need to do for the climate.”
Eurovision: Russia can compete despite invasion of Ukraine
Russia will be allowed to participate in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, despite launching a military assault on neighbouring Ukraine.
Organisers called the competition a “non-political cultural event” and said they were “currently planning” to host entrants from both Russia and Ukraine at the event this May.
“We of course will continue to monitor the situation closely,” they added.
Ukraine’s state broadcaster UA:PBC had called for Russia to be suspended.
Foreign Affairs minister Joly calls Russia envoy on carpet!!!
OTTAWA — Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly has summoned Russia’s ambassador to Canada for a dressing down after his country’s invasion of Ukraine.
Ambassador Oleg V. Stepanov met Joly at the headquarters of Global Affairs Canada on Thursday, where she condemned “in the strongest possible terms Russia’s egregious attack on Ukraine,” the minister’s office told The Canadian Press.
Oil tops $100 and shares sink as Russia invades Ukraine
Oil prices have surged past $100 (£74) a barrel to hit their highest level for more than seven years after Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine.
Global shares fell and the price of gold rose as investors worried about the possible impact of the conflict.
Russia is the second biggest exporter of crude oil, and is also the world’s largest natural gas exporter.
The price of oil topped $105 a barrel, and UK motoring groups said petrol prices had hit another record high.
