After a couple of legislative wins during the week, Joe Biden’s supporters sought to capitalise on the sudden turnaround in his fortunes by doing a little light shitposting. This meant widespread sharing of “Dark Brandon” memes, images of Biden ominously threatening to end the “Malarkey”, with eyes aglow and lightning coming out of his fingers. They’re a direct rip-off of similar Trump-related memes that have been popping up on the internet over the last few months.

Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre is portraying historical icon Joan of Arc non-binary, sparking its very own tempest and claims of ‘violating history’.

A new production of I, Joan is billed as ‘powerful and joyous’ and ‘questioning the gender binary’.

But while it is yet to open at the world-famous venue on August 25, pre-publicity uses the pronouns ‘they’ and ‘them’ when referring to the French historical figure.

Salman Rushdie stabbed multiple times during frenzied attack on stage

Controversial author Salman Rushdie was attacked Friday as he was about to deliver a lecture at the Chautauqua Institution in New York.

An Associated Press reporter on the scene saw a man enter the stage and start to punch and stab the author, knocking him to the floor, before being pinned by bystanders and quickly detained. Police said Rushdie was stabbed multiple times, including once in the neck, according to the New York Times. The person interviewing him suffered a minor head injury.

Afghan refugees housed in hotels have refused moves to Scotland and Wales because they believe the countries are too cold and don’t speak English, it has emerged.

Around 9,500 Afghans and their families evacuated from Kabul after the Taliban takeover of the country are still being housed in hotels a year on, at a cost of about £1 million a day.

This comes on top of the £3 million-a-day taxpayers’ bill for hotels for 26,000 asylum seekers including Channel migrants.

Afghan cleric killed by explosives in attacker’s artificial leg, say officials

A prominent Taliban cleric, Sheikh Rahimullah Haqqani, was killed in an attack in a seminary in Kabul when the attacker detonated explosives hidden in a plastic artificial leg, according to officials and Taliban sources.

“Very sadly informed that respected cleric (Sheikh Rahimullah Haqqani) was martyred in a cowardly attack by enemies,” said Bilal Karimi, a spokesperson for the Taliban administration.

Vegan activists have called for the city of Leicester to rename a traffic roundabout called Pork Pie Island to ‘Vegan Pie Roundabout’.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) suggested the controversial move in a letter to Leicester’s Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby, saying that the island should be rebranded to help promote healthier food choices.

Pork Pie Island was named by locals to match a 1930s library which sits adjacent to the roundabout. The library has a series of round sections surrounding its main building that slightly resembles a pork pie when looking at it from a bird’s-eye view.

Two men attacked in Washington DC being probed as possible hate crime: cops

Two men in Washington D.C. were attacked in a potential hate crime by assailants who allegedly used an anti-gay slur and referenced “monkeypox,” authorities said.

Metropolitan Police Department said the pair of hateful suspects approached the victims and made derogatory comments “based on their sexual orientation” around 7 p.m. Sunday.

The suspects called the couple “monkeypox f—–s” and punched them several times, according to an ABC story, which cited an incident report.

Vegan-hating ‘incel’ is arrested after allegedly making a series of death threats against a Woodstock Fruit Festival

A vegan-hating New York man was arrested Tuesday morning after he allegedly made a series of death threats against an upstate fruit festival – which included telling an organizer that he would ‘do a f–king Ted Bundy’ to her unless she called off the event.

William Swift, 32, of Brooklyn, appeared in Brooklyn federal court today where he was charged with menacing organizers and attendees of the festival which is described as a ‘vegan health retreat’ and ‘an all-out celebration of health, fruit-based diet and personal growth.’

Swift apparently split from the vegan lifestyle and community, ranting against veganism and fruitarianism on his Instagram page.
