Michelle Obama Only Democrat to Best Trump in Hypothetical Matchup

Former first lady Michelle Obama easily bested former president Donald Trump in a hypothetical polling matchup, making her the only Democrat to do so.

Obama garnered 50 percent support among registered voters compared to Trump’s 39 percent, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Tuesday. Only 4 percent said they would not vote at all in a potential race between Obama and Trump. In comparison, the presumptive Democratic nominee, President Joe Biden, was evenly matched with his Republican opponent at 40 percent. Eight percent said they would vote for another candidate in that case, and an additional 8 percent said they wouldn’t vote.

New Cuban radar site near US military base could aid China spying – report

Satellite images appear to show that Cuba is building a new radar site likely to be capable of spying on the US’s nearby Guantánamo Bay naval base, in the latest upgrade to the country’s surveillance capabilities long thought to be linked to China.

The base, under construction since 2021 but previously not publicly reported, is east of the city of Santiago de Cuba near the El Salao neighborhood, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) said in a report published on Monday and later referenced by the Wall Street Journal.

Cuban vice foreign minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio denied that Cuba was harboring Chinese military interests on the island.

United States looking at all options to halt Trudeau government’s digital services tax

The Office of the United States Trade Representative says it will do what’s necessary to halt Canada’s tax on large foreign digital services companies.

Last month, Parliament approved the government’s plan to add a three per cent levy on foreign tech giants which generate revenue from Canadian users. It means the companies will have to pay taxes on that revenue in Canada.

Many of those companies are based in the United States and American industry is demanding action.

We could be in trouble if Dementia Joe can remember Canada.

TikTok, ByteDance Expand Presence in Canada as US Threatens Ban Over Security Concerns

TikTok is speeding up transfer of its China-based employees to Canada and other overseas positions as the social media giant faces increasing pressure from the United States to divest from its parent company, ByteDance, over security concerns.

TikTok is offering to approximately double the salaries and to provide housing subsidies for employees in technical and analytical roles if they transfer overseas, according to a January report by Chinese state-owned media Jiemian News.

Steve Bannon, Donald Trump’s former top adviser, vowed he would only be “bigger and more powerful” in prison as he reported on Monday for a four-month sentence for contempt of Congress.

Bannon, 70, who served as chief strategist to the Republican former president during his time in the White House, was convicted in 2022 over his defiance of subpoenas concerning the House of Representatives’ investigation into the January 6 Capitol Hill riot.
