BRUSSELS — For Kyiv’s European allies, the shouting match in the Oval Office has intensified the pressure to fill the gaps in U.S. aid with their own weapons and to face up to whether they can go it alone in arming Ukraine.

The public breakdown has derailed days of European attempts to mend Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s ties with President Donald Trump and jeopardized the future of U.S. military aid for Ukraine.

Trudeau voices support for Ukraine following tense Trump-Zelenskyy meeting

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau voiced support for Ukraine after a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy went completely off the rails.

Trump and Vice-President JD Vance berated Zelenskyy at the White House on Friday as the leaders met to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine, access to the country’s critical minerals and a potential ceasefire with Russia.

Both the Trudeau and Freeland posts are being ratio’d.

The Ukraine has a huge recruiting disaster on their hands.

People just will not sign up to fight and many have fled the country.

Unless and until the why behind the recruiting failure is answered it makes little sense to support Zelensky.

I suspect Ukraine became the Deep State’s replacement forever war having lost the Afghanistan trough.

OTTAWA — Canada may have difficulty taking part in a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine after a future ceasefire because it has clearly taken a side in the conflict, an international affairs expert suggests.

During a visit to Kyiv on the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion on Monday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau did not rule out deploying Canadian troops to the region as part of a possible peace deal.

But that decision isn’t entirely up to Canada.

U.S. President Donald Trump met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday after calling his Ukrainian counterpart a “dictator without elections” last week — and the two had a heated exchange at a photo opportunity after.

Zelenskyy told Trump that promises of peace from Vladimir Putin can’t be trusted, noting the Russian leader’s history of broken promises. Trump said Putin hasn’t broken agreements with him.

Trump said Zelenskyy isn’t acting “at all grateful” for the aid given to Ukraine from the United States for the war with Russia.

At one point, Trump, raising his voice, said to Zelenskyy, “you’re not really in a good position right now.”

“You’re gambling with WWIII,” Trump said.

President Trump has offered Sir Keir Starmer a trade deal that could exempt the UK from being hit with American tariffs as he hailed the “wonderful” relationship between the two nations.

The US president and Starmer announced that talks on a “new economic deal” were under way and Trump said that they could happen “very quickly” during a joint press conference in the White House.

Trump also talked up the prospect of an end to the war in Ukraine, saying: “I think we’ll have two deals. I think we’ll have a deal on ending the war and I think we’re going to end up with a great trade deal with you.”

President Donald Trump is trying to force not only Ukraine and Russia to make peace but also the Europeans to carry their own weight in the defense of their own continent. It’s astonishing how angry the establishment is about this. It’s almost as if they want this meat grinder to continue forever and for America to subsidize the Europeans’ bizarre social pathologies forever. But what can’t go on forever won’t go on forever. Change is coming. We have to start accepting some realities. Childish clichés and moral posturing have no place in foreign policy. When somebody starts answering your arguments by calling you literally Hitler and saying that you suck Putin’s toes, you can be absolutely sure they don’t want to contend with substantive arguments. But they’re going to have to. Trump is serious about ending this war and resetting our relationship with NATO. They aren’t going wait him out or shame him into submission.

Zelensky has described the bilateral deal as preliminary, and said he wants further agreements which include US security guarantees to deter renewed Russian aggression.

But Trump said the US would not provide guarantees “beyond… very much”, saying the responsibility should instead fall to Europe.

Trump also seemingly ruled out the prospect of Ukraine becoming a Nato member – one of Zelensky’s long-held ambitions.
