Brad Bradford is running for mayor of Toronto. The city councillor for Beaches-East York is the main rival of the incumbent, Olivia Chow, who is hoping to win a renewed mandate when voters go to the polls on Oct. 26.
So when he speaks, it is worth listening to what he has to say. Unfortunately, what he had to say about a recent, tragic incident in the city was drivel.

A new ad campaign by the City of Toronto is warning e-bike riders not to use the city’s bike lanes.
My question is, if the e-bike riders delivering food orders for Uber Eats, DoorDash and SkipTheDishes aren’t using the city’s bike lanes, then who will?
A committee led by Mayor Olivia Chow is likely to sign off on a 40-year lease for Toronto’s WNBA team, which would pay $1 a year for a parcel of land the city may value at $10 million – or more.
A report, prepared for Chow’s powerful executive committee by the heads of City Hall’s parks and recreation division and its corporate real estate management arm, recommends the Toronto Tempo be given a city-owned surface parking lot at 701 Fleet St.– located northeast of Strachan Ave. and Lake Shore Blvd. W. – to turn into a practice facility.
So the city is giving a 40 year sweetheart lease to a league that won’t last 5 years (That’s the upside) and tax payers lose 500K a year in parking fees in exchange for 800K in operating expenses.
Chow must go she is a stooge.
What if Canada’s largest city started shrinking, and it wasn’t all that huge an issue, even with a municipal election just months away? This is the odd situation in which Toronto, forever caught between aspiring to and boasting of “world class” status, may now find itself. Hopefully not.

Mayoral candidate Brad Bradford is criticizing a top Toronto police official for categorizing the city as “extremely safe” in remarks that were made mere hours after a deadly shooting at the Salsa on St. Clair festival over the weekend.
Deputy Chief Frank Barredo told reporters on Saturday that Toronto remains “one of the safest cities in the world” despite the brazen shooting that killed two people and injured five others earlier that night.
Ah, Toronto, Canada. A city that’s doing more for the cause of gun rights than probably any other community on the planet, and not because they’ve embraced it and shown the world that law-abiding gun owners aren’t the problem, but the answer. Oh no, because Canada has done the exact opposite, and Toronto has become a horrific place to hang out.

Brad Bradford says he’s raised $1.8 million for his Toronto mayoral campaign, a display of financial firepower that would further solidify his evolution from an also-ran three years ago into a serious challenger for the city’s top job.
Bradford’s team announced the fundraising haul this week, on the same day the councillor for Beaches-East York held his first campaign rally at an Etobicoke community centre.

A burst of gunfire near the Salsa on St. Clair street festival Saturday night killed two men, seriously wounded four others and sent thousands of festivalgoers fleeing in panic through the streets in Toronto’s west end.
Toronto police were called to reports of a shooting near St. Clair Avenue West and Arlington Avenue, just west of the festival grounds, shortly after 8:10 p.m. A total of six people were found with gunshot wounds, including two men who died — one at the scene, the other in hospital — according to Toronto police.

Toronto police are still looking for a gunman after a shooting at the popular Salsa on St. Clair street festival Saturday night.
Police say two people are dead and six others are injured in the shooting that occurred shortly after 8 p.m. on St. Clair Avenue West near Arlington Avenue.
Police have not released any descriptions of the shooter. They have asked festival attendees to leave the area.

New data out of Toronto Metropolitan University shows that Toronto’s population growth has seen a dramatic swing since 2024, going from the fastest growing metro area in the United States and Canada all the way down to No. 443 last year.
The report, from TMU’s Centre for Urban Research and Land Development, says while a drop in international migration was a factor – it also brought Montreal and Vancouver far down the list – the big cause is that Toronto is bleeding residents to other parts of Canada.

Mayoral challenger Brad Bradford launched a critique of rising crime and costs amid stumbling city services as he sought to close the gap in support between himself and Olivia Chow at a kickoff campaign rally in Etobicoke Tuesday night.
Bradford, the Beaches-East York councillor who launched his campaign when nominations opened on May 1, made the case to a crowd of approximately 150 attendees at the Plast Huculak Centre, a Ukrainian community centre on the Kingsway, after two recent polls showed the gap in support between the two tightening.
