Peter Stringfellow was routinely denounced by the Left. But if he were alive today, perhaps they’d defend him. Because, improbable as it may seem, Left-wing councillors in Bristol – Brighton’s closest rival for the title of Britain’s wokest city – have just rejected a proposed ban on strip clubs.

According to a Green councillor, shutting down strip clubs would “discount the voices of some women” and “restrict their choices”. A Labour councillor, meanwhile, suggested that strip clubs were actually safer for women than city centre pubs. Hailing the councillors’ decision, the Bristol Sex Workers’ Collective said its members were “screaming, crying, throwing up with joy”.

Woke scolds are ruining everything. Even sport.

Can the woke scolds not leave us alone for five minutes? Judging from last night’s opening ceremony for the Commonwealth Games, the answer to that question is a firm No. The ceremony was a big fat finger-wag at the nation, an am-dram lecture to the masses on the right way to think about race, colonialism, gender, blah blah blah. It was like being beaten around the head with a copy of the Guardian for three hours. What ought to have been a sparkling celebration of Blighty ahead of a two-week sporting festival that is exactly the pick-me-up this troubled nation needs was turned by the Beeb and the Birmingham glitterati into yet another opportunity to hector Joe Public about ‘ishoos’. Millions must have switched off.

Even autocrats and terrorists now sound like whiney SJWs.

It’s annoying when one’s words are parroted by people clearly inferior to oneself. With my talent for turning a phrase, this has happened to me a few times. Watching Tony Blair snivelling about the ‘People’s Princess’ (mine) or Owen Jones sniggering about ‘cry-bullies’ (mine again) it’s not a pleasant experience to see one’s pearls spewed by swine. But if one believes in absolute freedom of speech – as I do – it must be borne with Stoic cheer, recalling the old saw ‘imitation is the sincerest form of flattery’.

On Thursday, The Washington Post ran with Zakaria’s headline, “Forget Pronouns: Democrats need to become the party of building things.” He shared the opinion piece link on Twitter, stating that getting “stuff done” is “a lot more important to most Americans than using the right pronouns.”

A University of Washington computer science professor claims his First Amendment rights have been violated after he was punished for his dissenting view on historic claims Native Americans have to the campus land, according to a lawsuit filed in Seattle federal court.

Stuart Reges, 63, who teaches an introductory course to computer programing, broke ranks with the university administration’s ‘indigenous land acknowledgment statement,’ which holds that the Coastal Salish people, a native tribe, have historic claims to campus land.

In Reges’s syllabus for his course, he wrote, ‘I acknowledge that by the labor theory of property the Coast Salish people can claim historical ownership of almost none of the land currently occupied by the University of Washington.’
