Setting ourselves stringent net zero targets will help us get ahead of other countries in the race to develop green technologies of the future. We know this must be true because Ed Miliband, and many others, keep telling us so. It is just that things don’t seem to be working out quite this way in the real world.

The collapse this week of the Swedish electric vehicle (EV) battery-maker Northvolt has once again shown how the countries most committed to net zero seem to be the ones which keep missing out on the spoils – while their industries drain away abroad, quite often to China.

EPA Targets Obama-Era Rules That Let Climate Zealots Hold America Hostage

President Donald Trump vowed to release the nation’s energy sector from the tight grip of regulations, and on Wednesday details of that plan were announced by new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin, who called it the most consequential day of deregulation in U.S. history.

“Today, the green new scam ends as the EPA does its part to usher in the golden age of American success,” Zeldin said. “Our actions will lower the cost of living by making it more affordable to purchase a car, heat your home and operate a business. Jobs will be created, especially in the US auto industry, and our nation will become stronger for it.”

Pity Canada is still in the grip of the Eco-Loons.

Ross McKitrick: Carney to lead Canada after trying for years to defund it

Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre is very concerned about financial conflicts of interest that new Liberal leader (and our next prime minister) Mark Carney may be hiding. But I’m far more concerned about the one out in the open: Carney is now supposed to act for the good of the country after lobbying to defund and drive out of existence Canada’s oil and gas companies, steel companies, car companies and any other sector dependent on fossil fuels. He’s done this through the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), which he founded in 2021.

There is no humanity in his carcass.

GREEN: Carney’s climate plan will keep costing Canadians money

Mark Carney, our next prime minister, has floated a climate policy plan that he says will be better for Canadians than the “divisive (read: widely hated) consumer carbon tax.”

But in reality, Carney’s plan is an exercise in misdirection. Instead of paying the “consumer carbon tax” directly and receiving carbon rebates, Canadians will pay more via higher prices for products that flow from Canada’s “large industrial emitters,” who Carney plans to saddle with higher carbon taxes, indirectly imposing the consumer carbon tax by passing those costs onto Canadians.
