Many cities in Canada are facing a housing and homeless crisis. Whether it be Vancouver, Calgary or Toronto, homeless tent encampments have become a depressingly common sight. For the most part, politicians seem either uninterested or unwilling to act unless forced to do so. After years of inaction, Vancouver’s tent city was only finally removed after a fed-up populous ejected the former mayor and council and swept Ken Sim and his ABC party to power with mandate to change something, anything, about the declining state of the city.

The housing situation calls for a march on Ottawa.

The mass immigration policy favoured by the corporate class and implemented by their lackey pols in the Liberal, NDP & Conservative UNIPARTY is impoverishing Canadians.

Ontario’s housing dystopia is an utter scandal

Ontario is the second-worst province when it comes to the “rental wage” – the amount of money you’d have to make per hour based on a 40-hour workweek to afford rent on average. That’s according to a new report from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives released earlier this week. While no province in the country is affordable — that’s right: not one of them — Ontario is particularly bad. The only worse province is British Columbia.

The report’s definition of “affordable” rent is based on the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s guideline that one should spend no more than 30 per cent of one’s income on housing. The authors of the report, David Macdonald and Ricardo Tranjan, contrast each province’s mandated minimum wage with the rental wage to paint a grim picture of our present and growing housing dystopia.

Yet another leftist article on the housing crisis that neglects mention of mass immigration, the authors do favour a sort of nationalized housing stock initiative.

The crisis is real, but the problem must be dealt with honestly.

Justin Trudeau has some advice for Justin Trudeau.

Mr. Trudeau, in 2023, leads a federal government that has overseen a surge in the country’s reliance on low-wage temporary foreign workers. The federal Liberals stoked this increase: they loosened the rules early last year. According to the latest data, reported by The Globe last week, Ottawa has approved the hiring of almost 80,000 low-wage foreign workers in the year after the rules were eased. That’s triple the level of the 12 months before the change.

The Mr. Trudeau of 2014 would not be happy. Amid debate at the time over rising reliance on foreign workers, Mr. Trudeau’s position on the opposition benches was clear. “The Temporary Foreign Worker Program is broken,” he declared. He argued that it “drives down wages” and called for the program to be “scaled back dramatically.”

Trudeau won’t take blame for failing refugees

It is to Canada’s shame that refugees who came here legally with an expectation of a safe harbour are instead cast up on the rocky shore of a tent city in Toronto.

Perhaps I have a solution.

Ottawa offers millions more in housing support to shelter refugees in Toronto

The federal government is injecting additional funding to help Toronto shelter a surge of newly arrived asylum seekers.

After weeks of bickering between Ottawa and city officials over who should foot the bill, Ottawa announced Tuesday an extra $97 million in new funding to help house refugees, many of whom have been camping outside Toronto’s homeless service centre on Peter Street.

According to the city, refugees currently make up a third of Toronto’s 9,000 shelter spaces.

Ireland: Spike in Migrant Accommodation Prompts Tensions

Well over 20,000 migrants who have claimed asylum in Ireland are being housed by the authorities. This represents a growth of more than 14,000 since October 2021.

Figures released this month by the Irish integration department reveal that the vast majority (49%) of those accommodated are single males. Less than 20% are children and just 15% are single females.

Airports see huge spike in asylum claims after Roxham closes

The number of people seeking asylum at Canada’s airports saw a massive spike in June with 4,350 people declaring themselves refugees upon arrival last month. That compares to just 2,750 seeking asylum in May of this year but even that is up dramatically from the 1,195 seeking asylum in the same time period a year earlier.

How immigration could be impacting the Bank of Canada’s efforts to bring down inflation

Demand created from a record influx of immigrants could be one factor keeping inflation higher for longer than anticipated, some economists say, though Bank of Canada governor Tiff Macklem doesn’t appear overly worried about it.

Sticky inflation prompted the Bank of Canada on July 12 to raise interest rates by 25 basis points to five per cent — the highest level since 2001. Though the inflation rate has fallen off its peak of 8.1 per cent last summer to 3.4 per cent in May, prices of more than half the goods in the consumer price index, such as meat, bread, coffee and rent, continue to rise, Macklem said in a press conference following the decision.

Group calls for head of Toronto’s shelter system to resign amid refugee crisis

More than 20 community advocates are calling for the head of Toronto’s shelter system to step down amid a worsening crisis involving refugees camped out on a downtown sidewalk with nowhere to go.

In an open letter released Monday, the group accused Gord Tanner, the general manager of Shelter Support and Housing Administration (SSHA), of “repeated mismanagement of the shelter system.”

Town of Ajax dealing with ‘crisis situation’ after influx of Trudeau’s “refugees”

Officials with the town of Ajax, Ont., say in less than two weeks, the town has seen more than 200 asylum seekers arrive, creating a dire situation as shelters across Durham Region are at capacity.

Durham’s regional chair John Henry says the influx of refugees is something they’re not equipped for.

“We were never designed as a level of government to try to manage these problems,” says Henry.
