Israel has launched an “extensive wave of attacks” on Lebanon after a woman was killed and others injured in a rocket attack on northern Israel.
Lebanese media reported that villages had been hit and buildings were on fire.
Hezbollah, which is thought to have carried out the attack on Israel, has not claimed responsibility.
The two sides have traded regular fire across Israel’s northern border since the 7 October attacks by Hamas.

New Democrats are calling on the Liberal government to have Canada formally recognize Palestine as a state, saying it would help advance peace in the Middle East.
“It’s time for Canada to do more, to build a peaceful resolution for the people of Palestine and the people of Israel,” NDP foreign affairs critic Heather McPherson said Tuesday.
McPherson will table a private member’s motion in the House of Commons that would recognize Palestinian territories as a sovereign state.

On Monday it was widely reported the US President had described the Israeli leader as an “a–hole” and might start to dial down the flow of American aid and weapons to Israel.
Mr Netanyahu’s rejection of Hamas’s contribution to the ongoing peace talks as “delusional”, his fearsome calls for “total victory” and his threatened assault on Rafah, where over a million displaced are sheltering, appeared to have finally cut through.
Last week, Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly announced that Canada was sanctioning 11 Hamas leaders for their participation in the Oct. 7 attack on Israel – a redundant and pointless gesture, since Hamas is considered a terrorist entity by the Canadian government. The ministry’s own news release acknowledged the superfluous nature of the announcement, noting that members of terrorist organizations are inadmissible to Canada and that their property is subject to forfeiture.
It was a little bit of security theatre by the Canadian government, part of its continuing effort to demonstrate that it cares deeply about Israelis/Gazans/Jews/Muslims/whoever’s turn it is next, even if it was announced four months after the Hamas attack. Indeed, one would think that the time for such wholly symbolic gestures was on Oct. 8, not months later.

Starting in 2000, he served as the newspaper’s South Asia Bureau Chief, based in Bombay, India. As part of his journalistic responsibilities, he traveled throughout South Asia and occasionally ventured into Pakistan. On 1 February 2002, he was decapitated for being both American and Jewish.
Swiss police have opened an investigation into a ski hire shop’s announcement it would no longer rent skis and sledges to Jewish customers.
The shop, in the famous resort of Davos, has now reversed its decision.
It has taken down the signs, translated into Hebrew, which informed customers of the ban.
But many have argued the case is a clear violation of Switzerland’s laws against discrimination and incitement to racial or religious hatred.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called a demonstration outside of Toronto’s Mount Sinai Hospital on Monday a “reprehensible” display of antisemitism.
Trudeau posted a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, in response to reports of a protest outside of the institution, which was founded by the Jewish community in Toronto over a century ago.

It seems an international coordinated effort is underway to push the boundaries of publicly acceptable anti-Semitism.
Gone are the days when a Swastika or a chant of “From the river to the sea” were the “extreme”.
The goal now is to intimidate people and institutions with an implied if not actual threat of violence.
The brazen unashamed thugs tearing up hostage posters and the open support of Hamas atrocities as legitimate resistance were my first clues that a page had been turned.
Though the numbers of Pro- Hamas protesters marauding about are smaller today their choice of targets has succeeded in pushing the envelope and making the streets of Toronto “safer” for worse acts of anti-semitism to come.
Large-scale protests are inevitable and given the size of the GTA’s Muslim diaspora potentially very violent.
Will our police be prepared? I don’t know. This is a hot potato our politicians hope just goes away without having to risk the Islamist vote.

The University of Pennsylvania is embroiled in yet another scandal in the wake of October 7: communications school lecturer Dwayne Booth is under fire for political cartoons that critics say are antisemitic.
One of Booth’s illustrations, entitled “Slaughterhouse,” shows Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu with red glowing eyes, covered in blood and holding a knife.
The controversial images were published on Booth’s personal website, crowncrack.com, where he uses the pseudonym Mr. Fish.

In his opinion article, Matthew Behrens criticized federal government restrictions imposed on Gazan refugees who want to come to Canada under a temporary new immigration policy.
Behrens took issue with statements made by Immigration Minister Marc Miller, who, in a recent interview, used the words “terrorism” and “security” 11 times when talking about the program. Behrens wrote that, in doing so, the federal government has been “repeatedly painting Palestinians with the unfair brush of suspicion,” saying “that suspicion is also built into application forms that ask unprecedented questions about the origin of every scar … ”
Two women accused of sticking images of paragliders on their backs at a pro-Palestinian march were actually displaying a “cartoon parachute” used as a “symbol of peace”, lawyers have claimed.
Heba Alhayek, 29, and Pauline Ankunda, 26, allegedly wore the pictures of paragliders at a march in central London seven days after militants from Hamas used paragliders to enter Israel from Gaza on October 7.
A third woman, Noimutu Olayinka Taiwo, 27, is accused of displaying the paraglider picture on a placard at the protest.

Jewish audience members have said they felt “hounded out” of a West End comedy show after a row over the Palestinian flag.
Soho Theatre is investigating an alleged incident during comedian Paul Currie’s stand-up gig at the London venue.
Mr Currie produced a Palestinian flag during the show, after which a row is said to have broken out.
