During its state party congress in Saxony-Anhalt over the weekend, AfD unveiled its government program for the first hundred days after the September election, with polls suggesting that it could form a single-party government at the state level for the first time.

In line with voter expectations, migration is among the most important points that AfD wants to tackle head-on. The 100-day program includes “deportations from minute one,” and pledges that “all available options” will be used to deport as many illegal migrants as possible, something that both the CDU’s local and federal governments have failed to deliver on for years.

Organisers of the left-wing radical alliance Widersetzen (‘Resist’) have refused to condemn attacks on right-wing journalists following large-scale demonstrations held during the Alternative für Deutschland’s (AfD) federal party congress in Erfurt.

More than 31,000 people took part in protests across the Thuringian capital on the weekend, which were organised to disrupt the AfD’s congress and block participants from attending.

Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) has reaffirmed its ambition to govern the country. Wrapping up the party’s national convention in Erfurt, the capital of the eastern state of Thuringia, re-elected co-leader Alice Weidel was pointing to current opinion polls that see the party in the lead across Germany. “We are the strongest force. We are a people’s party with 30% support. And we will govern,” she said.

Earlier, delegates had confirmed the party’s co-leadership. Weidel, who ran as the AfD’s main candidate in Germany’s 2025 federal election, slightly improved on her result from two years ago, winning 81.3% of the vote. Her co-chair, Tino Chrupalla, by contrast, lost significant support and received just 70%.

The right-wing Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) has opened up a commanding lead in the eastern German state of Brandenburg, according to a new poll, highlighting the continuing rise of the party across the country.

The survey places the AfD at 37%, 15 percentage points ahead of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) of Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke, which stands at 22%.

Parliamentary police in Berlin were called to investigate AfD lawmakers after they displayed a large German national flag from a Bundestag office overlooking an anti-government protest, triggering accusations of political double standards.

The incident occurred on Monday, June 8th, as demonstrators marched through the German capital calling for the resignation of Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s government and demanding a series of political reforms.

According to recent German government data, the number of violent attacks against politicians surged by 28% in 2025, with the national conservative Alternative for Germany (AfD) bearing the brunt of the violence.

Out of 183 recorded violent crimes targeting politicians last year, 121 were directed at AfD representatives.
