The federal prison service is hiring an executive to address soaring rates of Indigenous incarceration, yielding to 18 years of demands from prisoners’ rights advocates.
The job posting for “Deputy Commissioner, Indigenous Corrections” at Correctional Service Canada appeared on the government’s job site in recent days and calls for applicants who can “champion Indigenous Corrections and ensure the appropriate attention and accountability towards Indigenous issues, including the overrepresentation of Indigenous offenders, and help CSC to implement the many calls for justice.”
It’s unfortunate but are we solely to blame?

Gunfight at the Bouncy Castle proves dad opened fire at son’s Toronto birthday party, Crown says

A prosecutor is urging a Toronto judge to find that Kevin George was one of four men who engaged in a gunfight at a birthday party for his one-year-old son, saying the accused advertised his involvement by wearing a custom-made “Daddy Shark” T-shirt.

George opened fire amid “a sea of innocent people,” prosecutor Paul Zambonini said Friday in the west Toronto courthouse at 2201 Finch Ave. W.

“This is absolutely shocking, outrageous, disgusting behaviour. It’s incredible that these men chose to fire some 20 shots when there’s a children’s birthday party,” he said, directing the judge’s attention to a “bouncy castle” visible in video surveillance images.

Well at least he showed for his son’s birthday. Now it’s time to harass some legal gun owners!

Governor Kathy Hochul appeared on television over the weekend, informing New Yorkers worried about rising crime and eroding public safety that they are all victims of a “conspiracy,” engineered by “master manipulators” bent on deceiving them. Calling her opponent Lee Zeldin and the Republican Party “data deniers,” the governor explained that “Democratic states” like New York are the “safer places” in America. She cited this year’s decline in Gotham’s murder rate as proof that she is keeping New Yorkers safe, though she neglected to mention the sharp rise in total crime across the city, including a 30 percent rise in all “index” crimes.

Canada has made scant progress in addressing the overrepresentation of Black and Indigenous people in prisons, with some facing even worse conditions than a decade ago, a new report says.

The country’s top prison watchdog says systemic concerns and barriers, including rampant racial discrimination, stereotyping and bias, are “as pervasive and persistent as before.”

Correctional Investigator Ivan Zinger said in a press conference Tuesday that he is disappointed the “extraordinarily well-financed” agency in charge of Canadian prisons has failed to recognize its role in reversing the crisis of overrepresentation.

Poll: Most Americans Ever Say Crime Up in Their Neighborhood

More Americans are reporting a crime increase in their neighborhoods than at any point since 1972, when Gallup first polled the issue.

Fifty-six percent of U.S. adults perceive more crime in their area than the year prior, the group’s latest poll found—a 5-point increase from 2021. The highest level the pollster previously recorded was 54 percent in 1981 and 1992.

Detectives in Barry and Honey Sherman case never checked Pearson airport cameras in hunt for killers

Toronto police never checked Toronto Pearson International Airport cameras to see if any potential suspects — including the mysterious “Walking Man” caught on neighbourhood surveillance cameras — left the country immediately after killing Barry and Honey Sherman, a Toronto court has heard.

“Why would we do that,” Det. Const. Dennis Yim said during cross examination by a Toronto Star reporter last week. “The person could have changed their appearance.”

Yet, as Yim testified, police showed photos of the “Walking Man” around the Sherman neighbourhood to see if anyone could identify him. Nobody could. Police believe he is the killer or one of the killers, according to police documents.

Sherman homicide detectives looking for information in five countries

Toronto homicide detectives believe information in five countries may hold the key to who killed Barry and Honey Sherman, a Toronto court has heard.

“The bulk of the investigation so far has been in Canada, but it is taking on a bit of an international flair,” said Detective Constable Dennis Yim, the lone detective working full-time on the probe.

This December will be the fifth anniversary of the murders of the generic pharmaceutical titan and his wife. They were killed in their home on the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017. Their bodies, posed in a macabre tableau, were found 36 hours later on the deck of the basement swimming pool. They had been strangled.

People arming up to deal with violence…in San Francisco

The city of San Francisco is one of the most anti-gun cities on the planet. If they had their way, guns would be completely and totally outlawed within the city limits.

Actually, they’d be outlawed everywhere, but they can’t really make that call for everyone else.

Luckily, they can’t go that far. However, between the city itself and the state of California, getting a firearm lawfully isn’t easy.

The new lawlessness gripping America

Mindless nihilistic destruction is now tolerated by the elites.

One evening a few weeks ago, about 100 young people ransacked a Wawa convenience store in Philadelphia. The mob stole merchandise, knocked over shelves and threw food and drinks around, leaving the store looking like a natural disaster had hit it. Many got their phones out to record the madness. As chaos reigned, a young woman twerked on a counter. Fighting spilled out into the parking lot.
