Heavy-duty towing experts say it will be difficult or impossible to remove the hundreds of heavy trucks entrenched in Ottawa’s downtown — unless the drivers allow it.

CBC counted 40 trucks on Kent Street and 109 on Wellington Street Friday, with dozens more on other streets spread around the downtown core. Then on Saturday, Ottawa police said 500 heavy trucks were in the so-called “red zone.”

Trucker Lloyd Crowe from Picton, Ont., has been parked just a couple of blocks away from Parliament Hill since last weekend, but he’s not worried about being towed.

In an interview on CTV Morning Live on Monday, Mayor Jim Watson called on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government to appoint a mediator in an effort to end the “Freedom Convoy” occupation in the city’s downtown.

Watson said he has suggested to federal ministers that a mediator could be “an honest broker on both sides to try to find some common ground, if that’s possible.”

“Someone of great stature in our community and the country who can actually open doors and bring some peace and calm to the situation,” Watson told CTV Morning Live.

Which brings us to GoFundMe, the popular fund-raising platform, which shut down a $10 million cash haul for the striking Canadian truckers on some kind of political correctness ground, or rather “violation of terms of service.” They saw that the bid to help truckers was popular. Instead of being deposed regarding his firm’s work at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, he is receiving a new pile of cash from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The new award gives EcoHealth Alliance $4,675,023 for a five-year project in Liberia, on the continent of Africa. USAID awarded the funding well after serious questions surfaced about EcoHealth Alliance’s coronavirus research. There are ample concerns about whether those activities violated the Obama administration’s ban on gain-of-function research even if they did not create the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

GoFundMe’s withholding of donations to the Canadian truckers is a foul, classist attack on democracy.

We need to talk about GoFundMe’s withholding of millions of dollars from the Canadian truckers protesting against vaccine mandates. This is union-busting 21st-century style. This is a multimillion-dollar company using its corporate clout to starve working-class activists of funds. This is a signal from Silicon Valley, clear and loud, that it will wield its power to crush any form of political agitation from ‘the lower orders’ that pushes too hard against the political consensus. Anyone who thinks this clash between a profit-making fundraising website and drivers pissed off at being pushed around by Covid authoritarians is just another weird online spat needs to think again. This is far more than that. It is a scoping out of the battlelines over freedom and power that are likely to define the internet era.

Ottawa police are warning the supply of fuel and materials will be cut off to protesters downtown, saying, “Anyone attempting to bring material supports to the demonstrators could be subject to arrest.”

Police announced new enforcement is underway just hours after Mayor Jim Watson said the downtown area is “out of control” on day 10 of the ‘Freedom Convoy” on Wellington Street and other roads around Parliament Hill.

Man arrested after allegedly throwing dog feces at person during Toronto convoy protest

A 34-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly hurled feces at another person during the Toronto convoy protest on Saturday, police said.

Police said the man has been charged with assault with a weapon after the alleged incident involving dog feces at Bedford Road and Bloor Street West.

Further circumstances surrounding the incident have not been released.

Province says Ottawa has tools needed to end convoy protest; Watson warns city authorities ‘outnumbered’ by protesters

While increasingly desperate Ottawa officials look to other levels of government for help ending truck protest, the province is sending a message that Ottawa police have all the tools and resources they need to do the job themselves.

On Sunday afternoon Premier Doug Ford underscored that message on Twitter, saying: “While we cannot direct the police, we have provided the city of Ottawa everything they have asked for and will continue to provide whatever support they request.”

It was kind of fun to watch “progressive” politicians and lib-left media light their own hair on fire over last weekend’s truckers’ rally in Ottawa.

But only kind of fun, because you know their over-the-top narrative about the Freedom Convoy (that it is a racist, sexist attack on Canadian democracy), is likely to prevail, no matter how false.

As trucks line the streets around Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Canada, in conjunction with the Freedom Convoy protest, thousands of truckers and supporters were seen dancing to loud music under flags hung across intersections Saturday.
