Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre says the federal Liberals must either heavily amend their border bill or introduce a new piece of proposed legislation if they want support to pass it into law.

“We’ve told Liberals that their current Bill C-2 will not pass unless they remove the violations of Canadians’ individual freedoms and privacy,” Poilievre said in an interview with CBC News.

“We don’t think that law-abiding Canadians should lose their liberty to pay for the failures of the Liberals on borders and immigration.”

Every political party that earned the right to sit in the current House of Commons — even the winning Liberals — emerged from this year’s election with a dose of humility.

Sure, the Liberals were spared the drubbing that had seemed imminent at the beginning of the year, but just how far they fell beforehand and their failure to win a majority should be staying top of mind. The Conservatives were denied the easy win they expected. The New Democrats, the Bloc Québécois and the Greens all lost seats.

When anyone hears Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre talk about climate, one could wish he would read a book on the subject, or even the Cole’s Notes version. On the other hand, listening to our prime minister, one could wish he would read his own book.

On page 273 of his 2021 book “Values,” he wrote: “The carbon budget to limit temperature rises to below catastrophic levels is rapidly being exhausted. If we had started in 2000, we could have hit the 1.5 C objective by halving emissions every 30 years. Now, we must halve emissions every 10 years. If we wait another four years, the challenge will be to halve emissions every year. If we wait another eight years, our 1.5 C carbon budget will be exhausted.”

Bonnie Crombie to step down as Ontario Liberal leader after weak show of support

The Ontario Liberals will look to hold their third leadership race since 2020, following a resignation announcement by Bonnie Crombie, who received a weak show of support at the party’s annual general meeting.

Delegates at the Ontario Liberal AGM this weekend voted on whether to hold a new leadership race and 57 per cent voted no.

It was more than the hair over the 50 per cent required by the Ontario Liberal constitution for Crombie to stay on as leader, but some party members had been calling for her to step down if she received less than 66 per cent.

My guess is an Islamist replacement.

The self-proclaimed “Queen of Canada” was granted bail Monday morning and ordered to stay in Regina until her trial.

Romana Didulo, who appeared in court in Swift Current, Sask., was given several conditions. Violating any of them would land the 50-year-old cult leader back in jail.

Her conditions include staying away from Richmound, Sask., the village where her cult has lived for the past two years, not having any contact with several specific people including Ricky Manz, who owns the former school where the cult was living, and not possessing weapons.

Has as much legitimacy as Carney.

OTTAWA — The drubbing the country’s smaller political parties faced in the federal election not only bruised egos but damaged bank accounts, leaving the Liberals and Conservatives with a major advantage moving forward, a Star analysis of election rebate funding reveals.

Federal parties can receive a partial rebate of the money they spend during campaigns from Elections Canada. The money, which is doled out in the year following the election, can help parties build a war chest for the next campaign or repay loans they took on to fight the last one.
