Canada’s Corrupt Liberal Government

Let’s take a moment to appreciate how outrageous it is that Canada’s Parliament is not sitting during this critical time.

In three weeks, U.S. President Donald Trump could decide, because his breakfast eggs are too runny that morning, or he doesn’t like the look of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s face, that our efforts to secure the border have proven unsatisfactory. He could then plunge our economy into a recession, and our Parliamentarians will have to resort to the lowest chamber – social media – to speak on behalf of their constituents. All because the Liberals need time to choose between Mark Carney and Chrystia Freeland.

OTTAWA — It’s a race to two per cent.

A day after Liberal leadership candidate Mark Carney pledged he would hit Canada’s long-delayed defence spending target by 2030, two other leadership rivals declared they would achieve that threshold even faster.

In a statement Thursday, former finance minister Chrystia Freeland unveiled her own plan to boost Canada’s defence spending to the equivalent of two per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2027.

Assuming Liberal leadership frontrunner Mark Carney wins his party’s crown and becomes our next prime minister on March 9, voters in the next federal election will have a choice between a red-meat conservative — Pierre Poilievre — and a vegetarian version — Carney.

Liberal leadership hopeful Karina Gould said she doesn’t yet have the money to stay in the race, but is working hard to meet what she calls “an extremely aggressive fundraising deadline.”

To compete to become the next Liberal leader, and by extension Canada’s next prime minister, candidates need to pay $350,000, made in instalments. A major chunk, $125,000, is due at 5 p.m Friday.

Liberal leadership hopefuls are pivoting and responding to the attention-consuming existential threats to Canadian trade posed by U.S. President Donald Trump – a preview of what the next federal election is going to look like, according to Liberal strategists.

“There’s nothing usual about this race,” said Greg MacEachern of KAN Strategies.

From the very short timeline to the wild trade drama and the various characters involved, party leadership contests don’t normally play out like this one.

People will not forget or forgive the Liberal record under Trudeau. At best the Liberals may cannibalize NDP and green votes.

While the government bends over backwards promising Canadians it’s not going to introduce a tax on the sale of your home, it’s also been spending your money figuring out how to implement a tax to do just that.

Something doesn’t add up. Why spend money on something you have no intention of following through with? And let’s be clear — the Liberals are spending lots of time and money dreaming up new ways to tax your home.

You have no choice but to be a spectator of Mark Carney’s astroturfing. After all, the Liberals have suspended Canadian parliamentary democracy to make it happen.

Whether he is portrayed as an outsider, a new voice or a charismatic figure, the Carney campaign’s essence is convincing Canada that he is someone he is not.
