Last week, in the Five Quick Things column, I referenced an X post by The Federalist’s Sean Davis noting that one significant reason for the opposition to data centers is the stunning lack of visible philanthropy among those at the top of the tech-bro hierarchy who seek to build them.

Vancouver has a lovely Carnegie Library now faded and repurposed as a home for various “community” organizations. 

It had the ability to make you stop and think of the society that spawned such good works.

I liked the 2 buck bowl of chili.

BRUSSELS – A Belgian appeals court on Monday rejected the release appeal of Biwei Zhang, the Canadian intern accused of involvement in a criminal organization and of espionage inside the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s military command. The Chamber of Indictments in Brussels extended her pre-trial detention by a month.

The ruling comes days after a European investigative consortium published the most detailed reporting yet on how the closely guarded case began, and on what Canada’s part in it was.

When a leftist turns violent, Democratic politicians and their media allies offer a familiar response: yes, this is terrible, but right-wing violence is the greater threat. They have made that claim for decades, and it has always rested on a dubious premise.

The premise depends on statistics compiled by advocacy groups that exclude a vast catalog of left-wing violence—from the George Floyd riots to murders committed by pro-Palestinian activists and attacks on synagogues, Catholic churches, Tesla dealerships, and ICE facilities. Meanwhile, conservatives are routinely held responsible for the actions of violent loners, drug dealers, and conspiracy theorists with no coherent political program. Deranged anti-Semites, racists, incels, and antigovernment extremists get classified as right-wing, even when their targets span both parties.

The gap in living standards between Canada and the U.S. has more than doubled over the past quarter-century, with Canada increasingly lagging behind the U.S., according to a new study by the Fraser Institute.

The report by the fiscally conservative think tank also found the sharpest decline occurred post-2014, meaning during the decade the Justin Trudeau government was in power.

It’s like a fistfight between conjoined twins: The United States and Canada are throwing tariffs and insults at each other tit-for-tat in one of the most unnecessary trade wars in recent memory.

“I don’t want Canadian cars. I don’t want Canadian parts. I don’t want Canadian anything,” President Donald Trump posted Sunday, before comparing the tariffs on Canada to his administration’s war against Iran.

But while Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney try to check each other into the boards, China is skating free — scoring economic goals at will and choking out North American manufacturing.

Carney lies.

Ever since talks collapsed on Aug. 21, Canadian and American officials have been blaming each other for making too many last-minute requests. Both sides are now jostling for credibility as reliable narrators, while the fallout risks further escalating the trade war.

There is no universally agreed-upon number of immigrants who have entered and settled in the United States over the past 20 years. The number is typically described as “tens of millions,” with anywhere from 1-3 million entering each year, depending on the year.

Then you have illegal aliens, whose numbers are impossible to know. Then you have asylum seekers, who likely will become permanent residents, but not certainly.

Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal Party swept three special elections late on Monday, in polls that were seen as a key test of whether voters supported his tough stance against President Donald Trump amid a trade war.

Results on Monday showed the Liberals secured contested seats in Quebec, Toronto and British Columbia, according to Canada’s public broadcaster, CBC. The biggest win for the Liberals was in a district in Quebec held by the Conservatives since 2018. The other two seats were already held by Liberals.

Inbred anti-Americanism combined with a dose of TDS is more like it.

The frontrunning presidential candidate confirmed on Monday that, to enforce the ban on Islamic veils in public, she would seek to hold a referendum to impose fines on those who flout the 2010 law, which is currently rarely enforced.
