A federally funded effort to boost park visitation by building small cabins for non-traditional campers cost at least $15 million and may have failed to recover its expenses, according to an internal evaluation that found significant gaps in financial recordkeeping.
Blacklock’s Reporter says the review of Parks Canada found that hundreds of “diversified accommodation” units — small cabins installed across national parks — were built at an average cost exceeding $57,000 each, with no clear evidence the program ever achieved full cost recovery.

The United Nations’ Panel of Experts on Libya is recommending that the UN Security Council impose sanctions on Ahmed Gadalla, a globe-trotting Libyan financier who is a permanent resident of Canada.
Mr. Gadalla, 46, and two of his foreign-based companies are on a list of individuals and entities accused of violating the UN arms embargo against Libya, according to the panel’s 2026 final report to the UN Security Council.
Imposed in 2011, the UN arms embargo prohibits the transfer of military equipment, such as weapons and armoured vehicles, to Libya, save for certain exceptions.
CTV News’ investigative unit W5 has found at least 17 innocent passengers on flights originating in Canada were detained on drug smuggling allegations over the past year after their baggage tags were switched onto suitcases filled with drugs.
All were eventually released, but only after some had been handcuffed, arrested and jailed overseas.
W5 compiled the data through court records, news releases and police sources. The cases involved flights from Canada to the Dominican Republic, Paris, Germany, Morocco, Bermuda, the Philippines and Korea, where drug smuggling can carry the death penalty.
Toronto Police have confirmed that three of its officers have been charged in connection with an alleged sexual assault of a prostitute in Barcelona over the weekend.
The names of those charged are Const. Evan Glennie, Rich Rand and Calgar Yigit, according to law enforcement sources. Only Glennie is charged with sexual assault and remains in Spain, but he’s expected to return to Canada shortly.
Not victim blaming but the possibility of a shakedown has to be considered.
