On June 8, Liberal MP for Etobicoke Centre, Yvan Baker, introduced a private member’s bill to declare July of every year as “Somali Heritage Month.”

It should be noted that Toronto’s Etobicoke is home to a large, heavily concentrated Somali population. In June 2024, Baker gathered with “members and leaders of the Somali-Canadian community” to raise the Somali flag at City Hall to “celebrate Somalia’s Independence Day.”

This was what Chief Corporate Officer Duncan Fulton of Tim Hortons’ parent brand, Restaurant Brands International (RBI), told the Food Professor, or Sylvain Charlebois, on his podcast, alongside Axel Schwan, President of Tim Hortons Canada and the US.

I woke up this morning to see videos of what may be a social media trend: black people randomly going up to white people—they look to be homeless men—and assaulting them, claiming that they were on the Karmelo Anthony jury.

The videos are made by the people doing the hitting, and don’t even have to be in Texas, so it’s obviously just about using the Karmelo Anthony conviction as a hook to gain clout for striking white people.
