Small immigration protest sparks response from five police forces

Officers from five different forces were brought in to police an anti-immigration protest that fizzled out within three hours.

Anti-immigration protesters congregated at 11am outside Bournemouth town hall on Sunday but were met with activists from Stand Up to Racism on the other side of the road in Central Gardens with drums and loudspeakers.

But the stand-off faded into lone echoes of “stop the boats” from the crowd of anti-immigration protesters, who were drastically outnumbered by counter-protesters.

Police can’t arrest criminals if the jails are full of rioters, says prison officers’ union boss

Police will be unable to make arrests if prisons are full up with rioters, it has been suggested.

The Prison Officers’ Association (POA) predicts that ministers will be forced to impose new bottlenecks within days to avoid prisons filling up.

That would require triggering Operation Early Dawn, which prevents inmates being taken from police cells to court unless a prison space is available for them.

Heavier and longer summer monsoon rains are said to be fuelling a rise in child marriages in Pakistan, reports Agence France-Presse (AFP). Human rights workers are warning such weddings are on the rise “due to climate-driven economic insecurity”. Great story since it holds out a small hope that banning hydrocarbon use can help solve a problem of forced and under-aged female abuse that has been endemic in many cultures since time immemorial. It is just a shame about the facts. According to the World Bank climate change knowledge portal, monsoon rains in June, July and August in the period 1991-2020 were marginally less in Pakistan than fell during 1961-1990.

Fired RBC boss Nadine Ahn’s sexy texts to junior colleague are revealed as bank launches countersuit over affair

Intimate texts exchanged between an ousted Royal Bank of Canada boss and her junior colleague have been revealed amid the latest round of legal wrangling over their secret office relationship.

Canada’s biggest lender fired its CFO Nadine Ahn in April after uncovering an alleged decade-long courtship with her subordinate Ken Mason, who reportedly received promotions and raises as a result of the connection.

Nothing really spicy but the texts clearly contradict her denials.

Will Wearisome Kaepernick Ever Leave?

The NFL coddled Colin Kaepernick, now they are stuck with him. So are we.

Sports pages used to be sane alternatives to the insanity of the news pages. No more. Normal Americanos have just gotten their heads around the fact that two guys, or at least non-women, fought for the gold medal in women’s boxing in the most woke Olympics in history, when we see, to our displeasure, that the odious Colin Kaepernick is weaseling his way back into public discussion.

He’s still flogging the tired idea that he has a future as an NFL quarterback. If the current Colin Kaepernick is NFL quarterback material, I’m the next Archbishop of Canterbury.

I had forgot all about him.
