The ‘task force’ Mark Carney was hired to lead has no members but him

OTTAWA — Weeks after Mark Carney’s appointment as chair of the prime minister’s special new task force on economic growth, his outfit appears to have no firm deadline for its findings, no scheduled events and no other members except Carney.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the former governor of Canada’s and England’s central banks and a rumoured Liberal leadership contender would be chair of the new “Leader’s Task Force on Economic Growth,” at the Liberal caucus retreat in early September. Carney’s role means he will be working for the Liberal party and not the government.

Delicate TTC tracks mean slow subways are ‘new normal,’ advocacy group worries

Advocates are raising concerns that a web of restricted speed zones across Toronto’s transit network is making slow subways the city’s “new normal” as the rail system shows its age.

The TTC has introduced restricted speed zones for trains in places where “certain defects have been documented” in order to reduce the wear and tear suffered by older portions of the track.

There will come a day when no one will be left who can recall when TO wasn’t a shithole.

Trudeau’s EV Battery Plant Partner Stellantis urges 194,000 plug-in hybrid SUV Jeep owners to stop charging and park outdoors due to fire risk

DETROIT (AP) — Jeep is recalling more than 194,000 plug-in hybrid SUVs worldwide because they can catch fire with the ignition turned off.

In addition, Jeep is urging owners not to charge the SUVs and to park them outdoors and away from structures until they are repaired.

Joly delivered Canada’s formal address to the 79th UN general assembly in New York just days after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attended a series of meetings there. In it she underscored the Liberal government’s oft-stated commitment to peacemaking efforts in Afghanistan, Haiti, the Middle East and Ukraine.

Melvin Vopson, an associate professor in physics at the University of Portsmouth, claims our entire universe may be an advanced computer simulation.

And the proof that this so-called simulation hypothesis is correct may be hiding in plain sight in the Bible.

He’s not the first to advance the simulation theory. I’m still confused by the multiverse stuff.

Residential school survivors press Ottawa for more money to find more fake graves

A group of residential school survivors and their supporters are asking the federal government to reverse what they’re calling a funding cut and come up with more money to help find the unmarked graves of students who went to these institutions.

The request comes the same day Canada marks the fourth annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, established in 2021 to honour the survivors of residential schools, and the children who never came home from them.

The Survivors’ Secretariat, which is parsing through decades-old records and searching the grounds of the former Mohawk Institute near Brantford, Ont., is leading the charge against a series of changes that Ottawa announced earlier this year that it says will reduce the total pool of money available to Indigenous communities to document residential school atrocities and deaths.
