The relentless proliferation of awareness-raising campaigns has done sod all to assist the less fortunate.

When I was a self-dramatising adolescent, I would consider suicide roughly once every six weeks, trying it on for size in the manner of pulling on a pair of mock snakeskin platform boots from Dolcis, before deciding that it wasn’t really me. Invariably, the decider (apart from not knowing whether T Rex would beat David Bowie to the top of the Radio 1 singles chart on Tuesday) would be the flying cars, the invention of which I excitedly imagined was just around the corner. I’ve got to stick around to see the flying cars!

The engines rev, the guitars thrum and a gruff narrator lays out why the vehicle occupying the driveway is more than just a machine. “A truck is a tool,” he says, “but a Ram – a Ram is life.”

So begins an advert for the Ram 1500, a pickup truck slightly bigger than the Panzer I tanks of Nazi Germany and almost as heavy. It is growing in popularity in Europe, with the number of Rams arriving on the continent up 20% in 2023 from the year before, according to registration data from the European Environment Agency. Road safety and environmental campaigners in the UK and Europe are aghast as the latest, most extreme cases of North American car bloat – giant pickup trucks – are increasingly crossing the Atlantic.

Footage shows 50 thieves ransacking freight train in Chicago

At least 50 thieves descended on a freight train in Chicago’s West Side to ransack whatever items they could get their hands on.

The group of wayward opportunists swarmed the Union Pacific train on Friday to steal multiple boxes before officers arrived.

The robbery occurred just before 4pm in the 400 block of North Lamon Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood.

King Arthur may have been LGBTQ+, according to a Welsh council’s history material.

The legendary ruler is best known for his mythical quest for the Holy Grail, but Denbighshire council has created educational resources which suggest he was significant in other ways.

The local authority has included King Arthur on a timeline of LGBTQ+ history intended to tell “stories of sexual orientation and gender identity”.

The fallout from CTV News’ airing of an altered clip continues, as Bell Media Vice-President Richard Gray faced a barrage of questions from a House of Commons committee on Thursday.

The contention stems from an edited clip that aired on CTV News last month that misrepresented what Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre had said in the House of Commons, leading to a blanket Conservative boycott of the Bell Media-owned news network. After two CTV News employees were let go, and two public apologies from the broadcaster, Poilievre lifted his boycott last week.
