‘Who in the world would want to take a church bell?’ Centuries-old relic weighing hundreds of pounds stolen

Parishioners at a church in Fredericton say they’re heartbroken and bewildered after someone stole a large, brass church bell from the church yard earlier this week.

“It’s a sad situation, what’s happening in the world today,” said Sharon Vickers, the churchwarden at St. Peter’s Anglican Church along Woodstock Road in Fredericton.

“To think that somebody has to be driving around looking for something to take that has a meaning to it and it’s not a concern to those people is so unfortunate,” Vickers added.

California sets up a showdown with Washington by reissuing licenses to killer migrant truckers

California has delayed its cancellation of thousands of commercial driver’s licenses held by migrants, setting it up for another showdown with Washington.

The Department of Motor Vehicles announced on Tuesday that the 17,000 migrant truck drivers whose licenses had been revoked can now keep them for 60 more days, which could enable the drivers to retake tests and do whatever is necessary to remain legal.

A professional who was duped by Afghan migrants on an LGBT dating app has revealed he allowed the pair into his home because he thought they were ‘shy’.

Rahmat Khan Mohammadi, 22, and Bilal Hotak, 21, carried out 35 burglaries and 20 related scams, seizing phones, watches, passports and withdrawing money from bank accounts.

They messaged their victims on Grindr and arranged to meet them at their homes for the planned thefts, Isleworth Crown Court heard.

Emails show Amira Elghawaby, now the government’s Special Representative on Combating Islamophobia, thanked researcher Salmaan Khan for his work, calling it “critical.”

Gatineau couple found dead while vacationing in Dominican Republic

Family of Alain Noël and Christine Sauvé working to bring bodies back home.

A Gatineau, Que., family is in mourning this holiday season after a couple was found dead while vacationing in the Dominican Republic.

The son of Alain Noël and Christine Sauvé found their bodies inside the couple’s vacation home on Boxing Day, the family told Radio-Canada.
