Nearly 60% of Canadians support becoming a full member of the European Union, poll says
Nearly three in five Canadians support the idea of Canada joining the European Union, a new poll suggests.
A Nanos Research survey conducted for The Globe and Mail shows that 57 per cent of respondents would either support (28 per cent) or somewhat support (29 per cent) Canada becoming a full member of the EU.
The results also show that 32 per cent of respondents were either opposed or somewhat opposed to the idea, while 12 per cent were unsure.
Maybe those in favour hope they can Schengen their way out of here?

New Brunswick judge reduces man’s sentence so he won’t get deported from Canada
A Nigerian man convicted of breaching a no-contact order with his former partner has convinced a New Brunswick judge to grant him a conditional discharge to avoid deportation.
Adebowale Adekoya, 33, appealed his sentence of 12 months of probation to the Court of King’s Bench.

A machete-wielding suspect attacked three people at New York City’s Grand Central station before he was fatally shot by police, in a rampage that diverted trains at the nation’s biggest rail hub.
The suspect slashed an 84-year-old man and a 65-year-old man about the head and face and left a 70-year-old woman with cuts to her shoulder in the subway platform attack.
Police said the assailant, 44-year-old Anthony Griffin, ignored repeated demands to drop the weapon and called himself Lucifer.

Fuel theft at forecourts has surged in the wake of price spikes caused by the US-Iran war and many of the perpetrators are driving expensive cars.

Rival Turkish barber shop workers who swung scissors and spanners at each other in a huge ‘turf war’ brawl on a busy high street in Wales have been spared jail.
Witnesses described a ‘very violent gang fight’ after workers from the Kurds Barbers in Newbridge, Caerphilly, travelled to nearby Blackwood to confront workers at the town’s Marmaris Turkish barbers on February 13.
Marmaris barber Omed Pirot, 31, was planning to open another shop in Newbridge which was ‘not well received’ by staff at Kurds.
