The Trump administration is staying out of the upcoming referendum on Alberta’s future in Canada, the U.S. ambassador to Canada says.
Ambassador Pete Hoekstra said during a podcast interview in Edmonton on Monday that the Oct. 19 referendum vote is a matter for Albertans alone to decide.

Premier Doug Ford says U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to introduce new tariffs on Canada over northern Ontario wildfire smoke that’s drifted south of the border is a “bunch of rubbish.”

The United States is once again trying to put an end to the ritual of changing the clocks twice a year.
The House of Representatives has passed legislation that would make daylight saving time permanent, leaving the Senate to decide whether Americans should remain on summer time throughout the year.
A permanent year-round standard time may soon be the norm in some parts of the United States, but that will mean little to Ontario if a couple of its neighbours stick with the status quo on twice-yearly time changes.

But the surface has been barely scratched, and these characters were in fact low-hanging fruit. The higher (or deeper) tentacles of the deep state were revealed by President Trump in his address to the nation this week, the speech the media refused to run.
Whatever the ultimate truth of President Donald Trump’s allegations of Chinese meddling in American elections, Canadians have no excuse for the kind of reflexive dismissal in which the CBC indulged Friday. Despite their ruling class’s attempts to hush up and smooth over what they had allowed to happen, Canadians nevertheless know from what limited government admissions were made exactly what Beijing is capable of. Whether what Trump said is the exact or entire truth, or timed to influence the midterms, is not the point.
