The Democratic Socialists of America are having a moment. In fact, they’re having a season. DSA candidates are winning nationwide in Democratic Party primaries, knocking off incumbents while running on some of the most deformed and deranged platforms in recent political memory. Zohran Mamdani, the charismatic young socialist in Gracie Mansion, is the new leader of the DSA pack. Terrifying as it may be, Zo may be the closest thing the entire activist left has these days to a kingmaker.
While we’ve previously covered that the voting bloc driving the socialist surge in places like New York City is largely made up of wealthy, white, college-educated voters, statistician Nate Silver has narrowed that group down even further.
In a new analysis, Silver found that voters most likely to be sympathetic to Democratic Socialists of America-backed candidates are highly educated and have relatively low incomes. In other words, the sweet spot is not just college-educated voters, but college-educated voters who have managed to pair credentialed grievance with economic disappointment.
Adolf Hitler was something of a piker compared to Mao, the greatest mass murderer in mankind’s history. It’s impossible to measure the misery, destitution, and death inflicted by the communist dictator. Was it 20, 30, 40 million dead? We don’t really know.
For the sake of moral clarity, however, let’s concede that celebrating Mao is as grotesque as celebrating Hitler. No decent human being would do it. No decent society would normalize it.

On Sunday, the Democratic Socialists of America’s National Political Committee (NPC), the organization’s board of directors, convened to decide how the DSA would endorse a presidential candidate in 2028. After debating what one member called “the most contentious item that we’ve had all year,” the meeting ended without resolution.
The source of the disagreement? Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Many members see Ocasio-Cortez, who hasn’t ruled out a presidential run in 2028, as the DSA’s most likely endorsement. Others, viewing her as milquetoast and beyond DSA’s control, hope that greater participation from the broader membership can avert that outcome.

Democrat Graham Platner has suspended his campaign for US Senate in Maine, following a series of scandals that included a woman accusing him of sexual assault.
In the days since the accusation was made, Democrats have called on him to drop out of the race considered pivotal to their chances of gaining control of the US Senate.
In a video posted online, Platner said his decision was not an admission of guilt but due to Democrats’ threats to cut off campaign support. He called the assault allegation “false”.

As the Nazis took over Germany, they were a minority party that no one really took all that seriously. Hitler was crazy, but his ramblings weren’t thought of by most Germans or the political establishment as foreshadowing. People today forget they were not a majority, as history tends to obscure reality for the sensational. Communists in Russia and China (or anywhere they destroyed, really) were a minority, too. But you should never underestimate the ability of a distinct minority to bring about massive devastation, as once radicals gain power they tend to wipe out their opposition and move quickly to consolidate control. That’s what makes the lack of comment from “leaders” on the left about the goose-steppers taking over so curious.

You might think that was a charge leveled by some rightwing reactionary who somehow confused socialism with communism. Instead it was the morbid fear expressed by longtime liberal Jonathan Chait in Wednesday’s Atlantic magazine, “There’s Nothing Democratic About These Socialists.”
So panicked was Chait at the specter of communism taking over his beloved Democrat party that he did not just mention it in passing. In fact, the C-word was invoked eleven times in Chait’s article in which he accuses the Democratic Socialists of America of being the parasitic pathway for injecting communism into its host party.
Liberals have a problem, and it’s the same problem they’ve had for decades. There is a steadfast refusal to call out their own side’s radicals and nutjobs. In living memory, they’ve tolerated the Occupy Wall Street movement, the rotunda takeovers, the BLM rioters, the Antifa terrorists, Islamic extremists, the Squad clown car, and every blue-haired, errant, non-binary androgyne who identifies as a gelfling one minute and Atreyu’s luck dragon the next.
The next mayor of the District of Columbia is likely to be a Marxist. In Los Angeles, the Mensheviks and Bolsheviks are battling it out for control. New York has already fallen to a champion of Third Worldism.
And, for the first time in U.S. history, a significant bloc of Congress will openly hate the country it represents. We aren’t talking about anti-Americanism in an abstract or hyperbolic sense. The Zohran Mamdani slate that swept the Democratic Party primaries is explicit in its aim to dismantle the republic.
The Democrats have a problem. They outsourced the ideology and the culture to the farthest left which means the party no longer has any other identity or any ideological brakes. The lack of competitive districts due to gerrymandering and election consolidation means that a small number of primary voters, mainly leftists, are choosing members of Congress even when those people are open Communists or openly support Islamic terrorists.
The Democratic primaries in New York City just delivered a stark verdict: the traditional Democratic Party, rooted in pragmatic governance, neighborhood loyalty, and a shared commitment to American institutions, is over. The victories of Democratic Socialists of America-backed candidates instead mark the ascendance of the far left.
“Generational”? Perhaps, but not in the way the Wall Street Journal means, or at least not entirely.
The WSJ correctly captures the ideological clash taking place in the Democrat Party and its scope. The framing around age is understandable too, given the shocking and embarrassing reveal of the massive cover-up around Joe Biden’s senility in office. However, that framing doesn’t necessarily hold up to scrutiny, considering the originating sources of the conflict…
To get a sense of how bereft the Democrats are of genuine principles, a good place to start is their defense of Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner. This is the “oyster farmer” they hope can unseat five-term Republican Senator Susan Collins in November. And, in that cause, they are willing to overlook a lot of controversies surrounding Platner. Among these is the tattoo of a Totenkopf, the insignia of the Nazi SS, which he sported on his chest for 18 years. Yet, when Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) was asked about Platner on ABC News, he feigned “concern” then pivoted to President Trump: “This man is dangerous, and it’s time that we take back the Senate. And that’s what I’m focused on.”
