Martha’s Vineyard to migrants: Get off my lawn!

So illegal migrants crossing over from Mexico are Holocaust Survivors and Martha’s Vineyard is Auschwitz?

We said it days ago in the column “Beware hidden messages in Ken Burns’ US and the Holocaust.

In it, we expressed concern that his three-part series, running on PBS as of Sunday, Sept. 18, is at once a thorough examination of America’s misbehavior against the Jews during the Holocaust, but also, for Burns, a chance to turn the migrants into Jews, Trump into Hitler, and Republicans into Nazis…foremost, Texas governor Greg Abbott, and, by way of Texas, Florida governor Ron DeSantis.

It’s no surprise that Ron DeSantis has become the Democrats’ bête noire. He is just so much better than they are on both policy and politics, and that makes him dangerous to their ability to continue destroying America.

‘We have talked to a number of people who’ve asked, ‘Where am I?’ And then I was trying to explain where Martha’s Vineyard is,” said befuddled Edgartown, Mass., Police Chief Bruce McNamee of the 50 illegal immigrants who landed on two charter flights at the island’s only airport Wednesday.

According to local reports, the airport officials believed the planes were delivering corporate guys on a late-season golf retreat, before suffering the crushing disappointment that the arriving passengers were, in fact, poor people of color.

Taylor Lorenz claims to oppose online harassment. During an appearance on MSNBC earlier this year, the Washington Post meme expert broke down in tears while discussing the “severe PTSD” she suffered as a result of the “horrifying” abuse she received from “the worst people on the internet.” After the segment aired in early April, Lorenz lashed out at the liberal network for emboldening her online critics.

Some in the British and American media have interpreted Nigeria’s prohibition on the use of foreign models as a ban on white people and foreign accents, and an attempt to free ourselves from a colonial mentality.

But this ignores the fact that there are many Nigerians at home and abroad with British and American accents – authentic or fake – as well as some Nigerians who are blonde-haired and blue-eyed.

My good friend, Jackie Farris, was born to white American parents in Florida in the US, but has made Nigeria her permanent residence for more than 25 years, and has a green Nigerian passport to show for it.

I’m sitting in the audience of another Edinburgh fringe show. The month is in full swing and, as a reviewer, I’ve fallen into the pattern of rushing across the city from one venue to another to find my next seat. But, as I sit here, I have a growing sense of discomfort. Like the previous show, and the one before that, I’m the only person of colour in the audience.
