Law Allowing Phone, Laptop Search at Borders Unconstitutional, Ontario Court Rules

A law that allows border agents to search electric devices, including computers and phones, violates Canadians’ charter rights, Ontario’s top court has ruled, telling Parliament it needs to rewrite the law in six months.

In an Aug. 9 court decision, justices Michael Tulloch, Jonathon George, and Patrick Monahan said that the Canadian Charter “guarantees everyone the right to be secure against unreasonable searches.”

Britain’s National Health Service staff told to ask men if they are pregnant before X-rays

NHS X-ray operators have been told to ask men if they are pregnant before conducting scans, The Telegraph can reveal.

Radiographers at multiple hospitals have been told they must check whether all patients aged 12 to 55 are pregnant, regardless of their sex, as part of inclusivity guidance.

The guidance was written after an incident in which a trans man who was unknowingly pregnant had a CT scan, and tells staff to be inclusive of transgender, non-binary and intersex patients by not making assumptions about people.

Military considers reviewing minimum medical requirements in effort to attract more volunteers

The military is reviewing its minimum “medical requirements” for new recruits to attract more volunteers, records show.

Blacklock’s Reporter says Defence Minister Bill Blair previously indicated other measures would be considered, such as reducing the minimum enlistment period to as short as 18 months.
