SLOBODIAN: Tens of millions spent — zero female entrepreneurs empowered

Well, Mary Ng is gone — and so is the $130 million in taxpayer dollars the former Liberal federal trade minister allocated to support women’s business start-ups and generate jobs … that never materialized.

Ng didn’t seek re-election in the Markham-Thornhill riding, but she did hang around long enough — a little past the required six years — to collect her handsome MP pension and trot off into the sunset. Well-earned?

Gunman opens fire on Catholic Church during Mass – Minneapolis police say shooter ‘contained’

9:45 a.m. – An Annunciation parent who was sitting in the back pew at the 8:15 a.m. Mass said students were packed into the pews when a shooter opened fire outside the building with some kind of semiautomatic weapon.

“He just pepper-sprayed through the stained-glass windows into the building, 50 to 100 shots,” said the parent, who did not want his name used. “He killed two kids.”

“This is terrible,” he said. ”This is evil. I don’t know how you defend against this.”

UPDATE: The suspected gunman in a horrific church and school shooting in Minnesota took his own life after a rampage cops say killed at least two people and wounded as many as 20 others, with victims including kids and adults.

Police said the unidentified shooter — who was described as dressed in all black and armed with a rifle — died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at Annunciation Church and school in Minneapolis.

John Sikkema: Hamilton, where billboards can’t question transgender children

Andrea Horwath’s Hate Crime

On Aug. 8, Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath saw a billboard she didn’t like. So she lifted her hand and she gave a command. And the billboard came down that same day.

“This afternoon, my office was made aware of a transphobic ad on a billboard along the Linc,” Horwath announced on social media, referring to the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway. The post didn’t mention what the advertisement said, or what it was about.

Kneecap keeps Canadian tour dates, cancels U.S. shows due to court hearing

The Irish hip-hop group Kneecap, whose performance at Coachella earlier this year sparked controversy for projected messages against the Israeli government’s war in Gaza, is cancelling 15 of its shows in the United States but says four scheduled shows in Vancouver and Toronto will go on.

In an Instagram post this week, the group announced it was cancelling the U.S. shows due to Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh’s upcoming court hearing in London scheduled for Sept. 26.

Ó Hannaidh is a rapper and group co-founder who performs under the name Mo Chara. He faces terrorism charges in the United Kingdom after videos emerged appearing to show him wearing a Hezbollah flag over his head. Both Hezbollah and Hamas are designated terror groups in Britain and Canada.
