The Iranian-backed Houthis have claimed a missile attack on Saudi Arabia, after Riyadh launched strikes on targets linked to the group on Friday.

Early on Saturday, the Houthis’ Ansarollah media said on Telegram that a “Yemeni missile strike” had caused fires in the Saudi city of Jizan. Saudi authorities had issued emergency alerts for the province.

The group had vowed retaliation after Saudi Arabia launched air strikes on Houthi targets in the Yemeni port city of Hodeida and a nearby island on Friday.

Iran reportedly rejected a new cease-fire deal Thursday that was presented by Iraq’s prime minister on behalf of President Trump.

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi – fresh off a White House visit and Oval Office meeting with Trump – brought the proposed deal with him to Tehran and presented it to top Iranian officials, who refused to entertain the proposal, according to the New York Times.

The terms of the rejected truce are unclear, but Iranian officials described it as the “only offer on the table” and a “temporary deal” that did not resolve the question of who would control the Strait of Hormuz, the outlet reported.

WASHINGTON—President Trump was fed up.

During a recent meeting in the Oval Office, he launched into a tirade against Iranian leaders, calling them scumbags and lunatics, and unleashing a series of expletives, according to a person who heard the comments.

As the war in Iran enters its fifth month, Trump is increasingly frustrated that a conflict he once thought would be over in a matter of weeks has dragged on with no end in sight, administration officials and others close to the president said.

President Trump said he is weighing a “massive attack” on Iran — as the Pentagon floods the Middle East with elite troops, fighter jets and combat medics.

“I am considering a massive attack. Bigger than anything we have ever had before. I am close to making a decision. We are fully prepared for it,” the president told Israel’s Channel 12 on Thursday.

He added that the Jewish state would join the US in the operation “in two minutes” if he asked, but clarified that “we don’t need anybody” to launch the potential escalation.

President Donald Trump has threatened that the US would destroy an Iranian bridge or power plant any time its forces attack a ship in the Strait of Hormuz.

Potential targets would include ones “located next to, or in,” the capital Tehran, he said in a post on Truth Social.

The military response would follow any form of attack on shipping in the vital waterway, “whether it be by missile, rocket, drone, or any other device or weapon”.

The Pentagon is hiding the scale of missile shortages from the White House, insiders fear.

The US president is under pressure to hit back at Iran after the deaths of three US service members over the weekend.

But rumours are spreading across the administration that the Pentagon is concealing a shortage of interceptor missiles, which are needed to resume the war. There are also suggestions that the White House does not want to know about the scale of the shortfall.

The US military says it launched another round of strikes against Iran to “further degrade” its capabilities to attack ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The 10th consecutive night of strikes took place after US President Donald Trump vowed to punish Iran for the deaths of US soldiers.

In response, Iran said it struck two oil tankers in the waterway, as well as US military assets in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, state news agency IRNA reported.

For decades, governments of many Arab states have viewed Iran’s aggression primarily through the prism of its conflict with Israel. That illusion has now been shattered.

Over the past week, the Iranian regime has demonstrated once again that its ambitions extend far beyond destroying Israel. Tehran has launched an unprecedented campaign of missile and drone attacks against several Arab states, targeting critical infrastructure, ships, airports, oil facilities, power stations, desalination plants, ports and even residential neighborhoods.

The US has expanded its aerial offensive against Iran, hitting a city hosting a nuclear power plant, while Iran has responded with strikes on Bahrain and Kuwait, as diplomats insist talks are ongoing.

Iranian media on Monday reported strikes around Tabriz, believed to hold underground missile bases, as well as Bushehr, home to the country’s only operational civilian nuclear power plant as the US military said it had struck “military command centers, air defence and coastal surveillance sites, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites and communications networks”.

Iran launched attacks against Bahrain, which hosts the US navy’s fifth fleet, and Kuwait, in addition to striking tankers in the strait of Hormuz, which carried a fifth of global oil and gas supplies before the war.

US forces launched their eighth consecutive night of attacks targeting Iranian military infrastructure late Saturday.

The latest round of strikes struck coastal surveillance and air defense facilities, maritime capabilities, and missile and drone storage sites to continue degrading Iranian military capabilities, US Central Command announced on X.

Fighter jets and missiles were launched off aircraft carriers and destroyers as explosions took out targets in mountainous regions of Iran, according to video shared by the combatant command.

Iran killed two US service members defending against a wave of Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks in Jordan on Friday — with a third member MIA, US Central Command announced Saturday.

“On July 17, two U.S. service members in Jordan were killed in action as U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks,” the combatant command said in a statement.

“Additionally, one service member is currently missing in action.”

There’s been a lot of debate over what the end of the war with Iran should look like, and many believe that the only true victory would include regime change. The mullahs could lose their nuclear facilities and their top commanders, but as long as they held power, the threat would remain. Now, a leaked document from inside the regime itself suggests the Islamic Republic may be closer to collapse than anyone realized.

Iran has accused the US of hitting civilian infrastructure in the latest wave of air strikes since peace talks collapsed.

State media and provincial authorities said bridges, a train station and an airport were hit. BBC Verify has confirmed an attack on a bridge in Hormozgan province.

US Central Command (Centcom) has not given a list of targets, but said the attacks were intended to “further degrade Iranian military capabilities”.
