ABC News debate moderator David Muir made a big deal of “fact-checking” President Trump when he cited reports at last night’s debate that pets were being eaten by Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, whose flooding 20,000-strong presence was creating many problems for the city of 58,000.
A brief note in reaction to the important — but long predicted, by Andy McCarthy among others — news out of Manhattan: Judge Juan Merchan has moved the sentencing of Donald Trump in his state-level conviction, previously scheduled for September 18, to November 26, after the election (“if necessary” — Trump’s legal team has filed a motion to set aside the verdict altogether that the court must first rule on the week before this hearing). Trump’s fans can take solace, and even people who loathe the man should take the philosophical view and thank God that we avoided having a ten-ton political depth charge explode directly underneath America’s political hull again this election cycle. (To the Democrats, I can say only this: If you thought sentencing Trump to prison on charges most people believe to be entirely political would help you, you are wrong, and you misunderstand the suburbanite voters you thought it would shake off the fence. You did not want that to happen with a month and a half to go until Election Day, believe me.)
In 2020, PolitiFact gave Georgia Sen. David Perdue a “pants on fire” rating for claiming that rival Jon Ossoff was a socialist. Now, PolitiFact is at it again, giving Donald Trump a similar “pants on fire” on Wednesday for rating for labeling Kamala Harris a communist.
In the “if your time is short,” section, Amy Sherman summarizes, “Marxism refers to the school of thought inspired by Karl Marx’s analysis of capitalism. Communism is a political system of government or a party that abolishes private property.”
A New York judge has delayed former President Donald Trump’s sentencing on felony criminal charges until Nov. 26.
“This is not a decision this Court makes lightly but it is the decision which in this Court’s view, best advances the interests of justice,” Judge Juan Merchan wrote in the decision handed down Friday.

As I try to understand public opinion in yet another presidential election year with President Trump as the Republican nominee, I see an anomaly.
On one hand, the polls look very much like the 2020 and 2016 election results. Trump trails Vice President Harris by 1.9 percentage points in the RealClearPolitics average of recent polls, for instance.
I don’t have the impression people want to vote for Harris, especially not just because she’s a brown skinned woman.
It is obvious that the Deep State machine that put a senile Biden in the White House is busy gluing a Potemkin Kamala together.
Donald Trump has said he will hire Elon Musk to save the US money by cutting government costs if he wins the November election.
Mr Musk, who runs Tesla and SpaceX, revealed in August that he had suggested the idea of a commission to Mr Trump and said that he would be interested in serving on it.

Former President Donald Trump’s chances of winning the 2024 election have surged in the last month while Vice President Kamala Harris has struggled to find “a 2nd gear,” according to polling guru Nate Silver.
The data analyst and founder of FiveThirtyEight revealed Wednesday that his presidential race model now indicates that Trump has a 58.2% chance at winning the Electoral College in November compared to Harris’ 41.6% chance.
According to the latest RealClearPolitics national average, Kamala Harris has a 1.8-point lead. Democrats are no doubt thrilled about this, but they really shouldn’t be. Harris is running way behind both Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton at this point in the 2020 and 2016 elections.
With nine weeks to go before the antique calendrical phenomenon of Election Day, the campaign is now being conducted between an elusive incumbent in constant motion and a durable opponent that appears to be immovable with a slight lead.
The one soft interview to which Vice President Harris submitted ignores a number of the issues uppermost in the mind of the voters and opened up a sizable credibility gap on the question of the vice president’s views on fracking, and in a range of other areas designed to cover off the colossal failures of the Biden-Harris administration over inflation, reduced disposable income, and the invasion of over 10 million illegal immigrants.
Trump needs a pro-worker policy agenda — and fast
About 60 percent of all registered voters are working-class, defined as adults without a college degree. Many knowledgeable observers seem to think that Donald Trump owns their votes. For instance, Patrick Ruffini, a well-respected Republican pollster, argues that the Trump-led GOP represents a “multiracial populist coalition” and is now America’s “working-class party.”
The consensus that emerged among pollsters and pundits across the political spectrum after RFK Jr.’s shock endorsement of Donald Trump was that it would have little effect on the outcome. But does that consensus reflect the same groupthink that missed the Trump surprise in 2016?
The editorial board of The Wall Street Journal warned that while Kennedy’s backing could possibly help Trump marginally in battleground states, “the price could be high if it includes putting Mr. Kennedy in a second Trump Administration,” concluding that “Mr. Trump’s best response is to thank RFK Jr. for his support, make no promises about the future, and by all means avoid joint campaign appearances” to avoid the taint of association with his fringe positions.
Like the greatest leaders in history, Trump is articulating a vision that now resonates beyond political party lines.
The greatest leaders of free societies transcended partisanship.
Not because they were absent of principle. To the contrary, they were driven by deep conviction in what they did, and they did so in relation to and in coordination with others. Rather, they were aware of the fundamental challenge of living in a polis — how to take a principled stand (whose rightness is not dependent on popular opinion, but because of the truth of the stand itself) united with others (without corrupting or compromising that stand).
Several gold star families are coming out to criticize Vice President Harris after she claimed President Trump was using Arlington National Cemetery for campaign purposes recently. Those same families say Trump was a guest to their loved ones’ graves three years to the day after the attack at Abbey Gate in Afghanistan that left 13 Americans dead.
On Wednesday, Trump traveled to Arlington to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony and a remembrance of some of those 13 alongside their family members. Photographs and videos were taken of the event in Section 60, which mostly houses the graves of those Americans who were killed in Iraq or Afghanistan.
As the dust continues to settle from the initial excitement of Kamala Harris’s nomination and the Democratic National Convention, Democrats are now likely to start wondering if they made the right choice.
