HAMBURG, March 9 (Reuters) – A gunman in Germany shot dead seven people including an unborn child before killing himself at a Jehovah’s Witness worship hall in the city of Hamburg, police and prosecutors said on Friday.
The 35-year-old, a German citizen and former Jehovah’s Witness, used a semi-automatic pistol he had legally owned since December in the shooting on Thursday evening, a Hamburg state prosecutor said at a joint news conference with police.

Hamburg police tweeted earlier on Thursday evening that a major police operation was underway in the GrossBorstel district of the city, adding that they were urgently investigating the background, but gave no further details.

Tate County Sheriff Brad Lance told CBS News that the shootings occurred in a store and two separate homes in Arkabutla, Mississippi.
One man was killed in the store, one woman was killed in one of the homes, and two people were killed in the other home.

Eyewitness accounts have said the driver of the parked van, in Torrance, which is south of Monterey Park, appears to be slouched over the wheel without moving.

St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that eight people were shot during an MLK Jr. Day event in Fort Pierce Monday. One of the people who was shot is in critical condition.
All of the shooting victims are adults.
The shooting happened at Ilous Ellis Park at 5:20 p.m. during the MLK Car Show and Family Fun Day. Deputies say more than 1,000 people were at the event.
