I didn’t intend to see Supergirl. I knew it would be infantile, dark, and woke — three of my biggest kryptonite rocks — and I had a book to finish, already late due to a medical trauma. But a critic buddy called me with an extra screening pass, and I wanted to see him. Now, the reason he had a ticket for me tells you all you need to know about the box-office prospects for Supergirl, and the mentality of Hollywoke, what’s left of it.
With 141 reviews in, the critical consensus is that Supergirl is plain ole’ rotten, with just a 58 percent rating at Rotten Tomatoes.
While that number will fluctuate as more reviews come in, it will only fluctuate by a few points either way.
Early reviews for Supergirl are decidedly mixed in an entertainment universe where early reviews, even for a piece of garbage, are almost always gushing and ecstatic.
And the movie’s box office prospects aren’t looking much better.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is looking at a $47 million to $65 million opening, which would be a disaster for a superhero tentpole that costs $175 million to produce and at least another $75 million to promote.

The Mandalorian and Grogu thudded over the Friday-Saturday-Sunday with just $81 million. With the extra day due to the four-day Memorial Day weekend, it is expected to bellyflop at right around $97 million.
