The Ottawa school that drew wide public attention for playing an Arabic song associated with Palestinian protest for Gaza as the music at its Remembrance Day service for students was hit with graffiti calling it “Hamas High.”

Jews and gay people should hide their identity in parts of Berlin with large Arab populations, the German capital’s police chief has warned.

“There are areas of the city, we need to be perfectly honest here, where I would advise people who wear a kippah or are openly gay to be more careful,” said Barbara Slowik.

“There are certain neighbourhoods where the majority of people of Arab origin live, who also have sympathies for terrorist groups,” she said, adding that they were often “openly hostile towards Jews”.

Amsterdam Mayor Femka Halsema said she regretted calling the riots in Amsterdam a “pogrom” because this was being used to discriminate against the Moroccan-Muslim population of the city, Dutch media reported on Monday.

The riots that erupted following an Ajax-Maccabi Tel Aviv game led to mass violence throughout the city. Large groups attacked people they suspected were Jewish or Israeli, often demanding to see their identification to confirm their ethnicity.

A police force refused to prosecute a man who sent an image of the Star of David intertwined with the Nazi swastika to a Jewish students’ organisation, on the basis it was not offensive enough.

Cambridgeshire Constabulary concluded that the image, sent on social media to the Union of Jewish Students, was not “grossly offensive” and therefore not a crime, it has emerged. As a result, the incident was reported as a non-crime hate incident (NCHI).

I don’t believe the Hibachi girl was bothered by the TPS.

A week after Israeli soccer fans were attacked in the streets of Amsterdam, triggering damning accusations of a “Jew hunt” in a city with an ugly history of antisemitism, a clearer picture of what happened that night is slowly emerging.

It suggests a far more nuanced take on events than Dutch authorities had initially indicated.

Never underestimate the power of an administration’s single term or the harm that policies – whether constructive or poorly-informed — can have on the international stage.

As President Joe Biden’s administration approaches the end of its term, it is hard not to see the global volatility, emboldened adversaries, and fractured alliances.

Those are lessons to be learned about the costs of weakness in leadership and the consequences of strategic missteps in foreign policy.

On university campuses throughout the world, there have been chants demanding that the violent intifada – which killed thousands of Israeli children, women and other civilians – be “globalized.” Last week, we witnessed the first significant manifestation of that demand in Amsterdam, where large groups of predominantly Arab and Muslim rioters physically attacked Israelis and Jews who had been cheering for an Israeli soccer team.

Although some of the media tried to blame the attacks on Israelis, the evidence strongly suggests that this pogrom was planned well in advance and would have taken place even if there had been no provocation by Israeli fans.

The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) and B’nai Brith both say they’re “alarmed” by news that “the government of Canada is considering a definition of anti-Palestinian racism.”

“Canada risks branding legitimate critiques of Palestinian political narratives as ‘racist’ or ‘discriminatory’,” B’nai Brith warned. “This dangerous expansion of the definition of racism will censor open discussion of Jewish identity, history, and the right to self-determination — core aspects of Zionism and Jewish identity.”

Hamas’ and Hezbollah’s financial tentacles span the globe and reach deep into Canada.

“War is a matter not so much of arms as of money,” according to ancient Greek historian Thucydides. Indeed, the gruelling year-long, multifront counteroffensive is costing Israel’s economy $260-million – a day.

The other side deals with a similar problem, which is compounded by the fact that Hamas has impoverished Gaza. Yet, until recently, Hamas seemingly had no shortage of cash.

Vancouver police staged a raid Thursday morning at the home of a high-profile pro-Palestinian activist who is currently facing a hate crime investigation.

Neighbours awoke to the sound of a “bang” around 9 a.m., and were surprised to see an armoured police vehicle and heavily-armed members of the Vancouver Police Department’s Emergency Response Team outside the home near 1st Avenue and Victoria Drive.

“If we don’t get no justice, then you don’t get no peace.”

So chanted, squawked, and bellowed protesters called to “emergency action” by the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) to “shut down” an event Tuesday honouring former prime minister Stephen Harper with the Defender of Israel Award under the Abraham Global Peace Initiative (AGPI.)

Rather than working toward a world in which everyone is treated with dignity based on their inherent human worth — not treated differently due to their religion or ethnic background — we are now locked in an arms race between groups seeking to define various forms of racism.

This process has been spurred on by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who seems to think that stuffy conferences and lengthy dissertations are the solution to the ever-growing levels of hate on Canadian streets.
