The war in the Middle East is creating new divides in CanLit

For Kelly Baron, now ex-publisher of the Canadian literary journal Ex-Puritan, the final straw was a statement re-posted by a colleague on Instagram. It accused Israelis of stealing Palestinian bodies for their skin due to allegedly high rates of skin cancer for Israelis – the suggestion being that Jews are not indigenous to the region.

Even before the skin-stealing post, Ms. Baron felt, after the Hamas attacks on Israel and the subsequent war in Gaza by Israel, that some social media activity by CanLit colleagues went beyond support for Palestinians and strayed into antisemitic territory.

Police in Germany’s western state of North-Rhine Westphalia arrested three more people on Sunday over an alleged plot to attack the historic cathedral in Cologne. One person was previously detained on Christmas Eve.

Cologne police chief Johannes Hermanns told a news conference that they believed the perpetrators planned to strike on New Year’s Eve and that the “alleged means of attack” was a vehicle.

The BBC and other Western media outlets are far more than mere useful idiots

The devastating Hamas weapon of war is the Western media.

Hamas, the genocidal jihadi force responsible for the barbaric Oct. 7 pogrom in Israel, has a devastating weapon of war. That weapon is the Western media.

With some honorable exceptions, these media outlets have been doing Hamas’s filthy work for it. Despite the terror group’s record of lying through its teeth, the media accepts what it says at face value while casting doubt on everything said by the habitually truthful Israelis.

Shocka! Canada hosts Muslim terror linked groups

FIRST READING: The pro-terror hate groups organizing almost all of Canada’s ‘ceasefire now’ rallies

… While leftist Canadian media will often euphemistically refer to Barakat as an “author” or “voice and truth-teller of Palestine,” foreign outlets don’t bother with the distinction. As noted in a 2022 investigation by National Post columnist Terry Glavin, a quick Google search reveals Arab-language Palestinian websites referring to Barakat either as a “leader of the PFLP” or a member of the PFLP’s governing central committee.

It’s for this reason that Samidoun was listed as a terrorist entity by Israel in 2021. Germany would follow suit last month, amid a nationwide crackdown on “pro-Hamas” organizations. According to a Nov. 2 statement by German Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser, Samidoun has an “antisemitic, inhuman world view” that was “particularly repugnant.”

Canada – Terrorism’s home away from home.

Samidoun and the PFLP have been operating for some time in Canada but have been left alone as the Muslim vote is considered too important to offend by our Politicians.

Toronto Public Library Welcomes Radical Anti-Israel Author

TORONTO – B’nai Brith Canada is urging the Toronto Public Library (TPL) to cancel its event, scheduled to feature a controversial American whose writings wrongly accuse Israel of manipulating the Holocaust to suppress criticism.

Norman Finkelstein, a former political science professor who has been denied tenure in the past over his extreme writings, has been invited to participate at the TPL’s Dec. 5 event – part of an “Intellectual Freedom” program series about free speech in academic settings.

Israel Knew Hamas’s Attack Plan More Than a Year Ago

Israeli officials obtained Hamas’s battle plan for the Oct. 7 terrorist attack more than a year before it happened, documents, emails and interviews show. But Israeli military and intelligence officials dismissed the plan as aspirational, considering it too difficult for Hamas to carry out.

The approximately 40-page document, which the Israeli authorities code-named “Jericho Wall,” outlined, point by point, exactly the kind of devastating invasion that led to the deaths of about 1,200 people.

Israel launches strikes on Gaza as fighting resumes after truce expires

Israeli warplanes have attacked targets in Gaza after the end of a seven-day ceasefire, with strikes across much of the region that health officials in the territory said had killed 109 people.

Loud, continuous explosions were heard coming from Gaza and black smoke billowed from the territory.

Neither Israel nor Hamas had announced an extension to the truce, and both had said repeatedly in the previous 24 hours that their forces were ready to resume fighting.

Vandalism is “special” when Naomi Klein’s friends do it

WARMINGTON: Author urges Indigo’s Jewish CEO to drop vandalism charges but not her books

The theme of this real-life Naomi Klein page-turner might be irony and hypocrisy.

Irony in that Indigo Books carries all nine of the talented author’s best-selling books despite her objection to what the company’s CEO Heather Resiman does with her charity.

Law enforcement has enjoyed much less success solving the dozens of church arsons launched during the Liberal Party’s anti-Catholic pogrom.

The Aborted War in Israel

Even if it were politically and psychologically possible to resume a war under the circumstances, how could Israel realistically win?

Iwish I could be optimistic about Israel’s ability to defeat Hamas in the aborted war, but I am more pessimistic than ever.

I’ve been a pessimist from the start. As Rich Lowry and I have discussed on the podcast, that’s because I’ve never believed Israel’s stated war aims were either politically feasible or reflective of on-the-ground reality — which is much worse than Israel or the Biden administration is willing to acknowledge.

Behind Pro-Hamas ‘Student’ Walkouts Lurk Manipulative Adults

According to the corporate media, hundreds of high schoolers are taking it upon themselves to walk out of school to protest Israel’s right to defend itself. In New York, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and more, the nation’s budding humanitarians are banding together with the hope of ushering in a new era of peace, the stories say. As is the case with so many stories surrounding Palestinian terrorism and Israel’s response, the prevailing narrative is wrong.

These walkouts are not the result of well-meaning teenagers choosing to take a stand. These protests are being conceived of and then planned and executed by radical left-wing groups using children as political props.
