THE lockdowns, mask mandates, school closures and care home disasters triggered by Covid are increasingly being acknowledged as ghastly and costly mistakes, but the vaccines we were pressed so hard to take are still being promoted as a ‘safe and effective’ triumph of modern medicine.

As TCW readers were reminded last week, the data do not support that picture. The immune response to the jabs can sometimes enhance risk of illness, and there have been many warnings as to why that should be the case.

Brown University professor Emily Oster has created quite a stir with her recent article asking for a “pandemic amnesty.” In it, she calls for “both sides” in the COVID debate to forgive each other so we can focus on solving current problems. If Oster wanted exposure, she certainly got it, with commentators far and wide responding to her plea. If she wanted to heal wounds and close chasms, however, she failed miserably. Many have told her to go pound sand.

Why don’t we know the origins of Covid-19? It’s been nearly three years, and even after scientists have analyzed millions of virus sequences, have taken samples of thousands of animals, including hundreds from the Wuhan market where the virus first is alleged to have broken out, we still haven’t discovered the proximal cause of the pandemic. It is strange, to say the least.

Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health has been directed to “urgently explore” the possibility of re-issuing mask mandates, especially in schools.

During Tuesday’s monthly Board of Health (BOH) meeting, Dr. Kate Mulligan introduced the motion, which aims to “reduce the spread of respiratory viruses and protect the capacity of pediatric care services.”

On October 31, 2022, The Atlantic published an opinion piece titled “Let’s Declare a Pandemic Amnesty,” with the subtitle, “Let’s focus on the future, and fix the problems we still need to solve,” penned by Brown University economist Emily Oster.

The article began by rehearsing a litany of social measures that were taken in response to the pandemic, highlighting the animosity that arose between opposing factions.

Journalists and scientists routinely dismissed the lab leak hypothesis as a crackpot theory and even as “racist,” up until the summer of 2021 when science journalist Nicholas Wade published an influential article, and a viral rant by Jon Stewart pushed it into the mainstream. Until that point, social media platforms had been removing or throttling posts that took it seriously. Anthony Fauci, who didn’t respond to our interview request, said it wasn’t worth even considering the possibility that COVID could have originated in a lab.

More recently, emails made public through the Freedom of Information Act have revealed that Fauci, National Institutes of Health (NIH) director Francis Collins, and other prominent public officials took the possibility of a lab origin far more seriously than they were letting on.

Dear Professor Emily Oster,

You recently published an opinion piece in The Atlantic where you called for a so-called amnesty for all those who advocated, enacted, and enforced lockdowns during the 2020 pandemic. You claim that some choices made in response to the pandemic “turned out to be better than others,” that misinformation “was, and remains, a huge problem,” but that “most errors” in response to the pandemic “were made by people who were working in earnest for the good of society.”

The UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has failed to act on repeated calls to ‘stop the Covid shot’ from doctors and scientists concerned that the jabs are injuring hundreds of thousands of people, sometimes fatally.

The predominantly industry-funded MHRA insists that the vaccine is the single and most effective way to reduce deaths and serious illness from Covid-19, and that the benefits ‘far outweigh any currently known side effects’. The National Health Service also continues to insist the jabs are ‘safe and effective’.

GO to the UK’s National Health Service website and it will tell you Covid vaccines are ‘safe and effective’, and that booster jabs are the next stage in ‘the biggest and most successful vaccination programme in health service history’.

It is now widely accepted that the jab does not prevent infection or transmission, but regulators believe lives saved far outweigh the price paid through side-effects. Dr Robert Malone, who played a foundational role in developing the technology on which the mRNA vaccines are based, disagrees.

More than 30,000 heart patients in England have died needlessly since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, amid continuing ambulance delays, inaccessible care and soaring waiting lists, a report says.

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) said significant and widespread disruption to heart care services was still driving a surge in excess deaths.

Its analysis of official data reveals that there have been, on average, more than 230 extra deaths a week over and above what would be expected for heart disease since the start of the pandemic. Since the arrival of Covid there have been just over 30,000 excess deaths linked to heart disease.

When a host of doctors, academics and journalists criticized her COVID vaccine-doubting, anti-lockdown views, Dr. Kulvinder Kaur Gill struck back, filing a $12-million libel suit against them.

Amongst other charges, she accused her detractors of being a “pack of hyenas” bent on destroying her reputation. It has proven to be a very expensive counter-attack.

A self-righteous cabal has delivered a public that is sicker and poorer

I spent the last days of innocence before Trump and Brexit heavily pregnant. Like many first-time mums, I read a lot of pregnancy books, but the one I liked most was Expecting Better. Written by Emily Oster, an economist, the book sifts carefully through many of the dire warnings doled out to pregnant women about food, drink, birth choices, and so on, assessing the evidence for each.

There are a half-million excess deaths in the United States that are unaccounted for—and the usual suspects do not add up to that many.

By a significant margin, and according to data reported weekly by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, the death rate in America remains elevated. If nothing else is certain as Americans continue to cope with the most disruptive event in the last half-century, one fact is indisputable: As the number of cases of COVID-19 decreased over the past few months, they now account for less than half of this persistently elevated death rate.

Excess deaths in England and Wales are currently running higher than in the main pandemic years of 2020 and 2021, figures have shown.

Throughout October, there have been an average of 1,564 extra deaths per week, compared with a weekly average of just 315 in 2020 and 1,322 in 2021.

Latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed that in the week ending Oct 21, there were 1,714 excess deaths in England and Wales, of which only 469 were due to Covid – just 27 per cent of the total.
