Catherine Tait, CEO of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), told the House of Commons Heritage Committee Monday that she is “entitled” to a performance bonus, despite overseeing a tenure marked by significant challenges at the taxpayer-funded broadcaster.

The CBC has always seemed like a novel scam, whereby Ottawa takes our hard-earned money and uses it to sell us on the benefits of more socialism.

But when news broke over the summer that the public broadcaster doled out $18.4 million in bonuses last year, the same year in which it eliminated 141 jobs and went cap-in-hand to the Liberals asking for money to cover its $125-million shortfall, it became apparent that the CBC’s top brass could at best be described as champagne socialists — at worst, grifters who have grown fat gorging at the public trough.

Claiming a Paris vacay as a business expense justified by the ludicrous assertion that she had to be at the Olympics opening ceremonies is a new low in Liberal entitlement.

Catherine Tait, the $497,000-a-year CEO of the CBC, will appear before the Commons heritage committee on Monday to explain why senior managers received millions in bonuses while the broadcaster was cutting jobs and citing financial difficulties.

Blacklock’s Reporter says Tait herself receives an annual bonus of around 20%, or approximately $100,000, according to records.

In 1998, Canada eliminated measles. The highly contagious and deadly disease was no longer spreading in the country, thanks to high vaccination rates.

Yet today, measles is again a public health problem, in no small part because of misinformation. As few as 30% of children have been vaccinated in some parts of Canada, and cases are on the rise. Clinicians say it’s only a matter of time before more serious outbreaks occur. Europe is the canary in the coal mine — measles cases there rose from 900 in 2022 to 30,000 in 2023, an increase of more than 3000%.

And how does being Canada’s premier cheerleader for the Russia hoax and calling everything that isn’t left of Marx “extreme right wing” square with being a “reliable source”?

Not a word about the Ceeb having deteriorated into a child grooming cesspit of Liberal Party perversion and propaganda.

This is even weirder than the Masters of the Universe cartoon episode where the hero, He-Man, teamed up with the villain, Skeletor, to save Christmas.

The CBC doled out$18.4 million in bonuses. Meanwhile, the state broadcaster was also threatening to eliminate some positions just before Christmas.

And that has even its “friends” upset.

The number of Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) employees earning six-figure salaries has skyrocketed by 231% since Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took office, according to recent data obtained by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF).

In 2023, 1,450 CBC staff members earned more than $100,000 annually, a dramatic increase from 2015 when only 438 employees took home six-figure salaries.

If you go to the CBC website and search “far right,” you get 2,457 hits. If you search “far left,” you get 219, less than nine per cent that number.

Incidentally, you get exactly the same totals if you use a hyphen, i.e., “far-right” and “far-left,” which means the CBC search engine is hyphen-blind — though I doubt it’s any other kind of blind, given the corporation’s devotion to identity politics. If you search “far out,” by the way, you get 329 hits, 50 per cent more than for “far left.”

CBC executives received a combined $14.9 million in bonuses for fiscal year 2023, even as the broadcaster laid off 141 employees and CEO Catherine Tait said the organization was suffering financial hardship, according to documents submitted to the House of Commons.

All 46 network executives received bonuses, for a combined $3,020,021, the CBC wrote in response to an Inquiry of Ministry, as first reported by Blacklock’s Reporter. Another 1,140 managers, or 99 percent of those on payroll, also received bonuses, worth a combined $11,883,734.

Canadians have never paid so much for so little. We see it every day as the cost of government goes up, driving up the cost of everything else, while service levels go down. The same is true of our public broadcaster, the CBC.

Last December, CBC’s CEO Catherine Tait told Canadians she would be slashing 800 positions (200 of which were vacant to begin with), sending 600 people to the unemployment line during an affordability crisis. She just couldn’t afford them, despite the $1 billion or more in taxpayer dollars they receive every year.
