Biden Justice Department prosecutor and “special counsel” David Weiss’s job is to protect President Biden. That is the thing we must always bear in mind, including in the peculiar case of Alexander Smirnov, whom Weiss has just indicted and imprisoned in a transparent attempt to knock down an allegation House Republicans foolishly ran with when it was both uncorroborated and not essential to their illustration of the Bidens’ sleazy relationship with Burisma, the corrupt Ukrainian energy company.

A delicious court filing this week in the case of United States vs. Biden in Delaware leaves Abbe Lowell, pricy lawyer to the president’s son, with egg all over his face.

It was written by Derek Hines, one of two new pit-bull prosecutors subbed in at the last minute to take over the Hunter Biden gun case in Delaware in the wake of explosive revelations by IRS whistleblowers that the investigation had been compromised by political favoritism and obstruction.

A former close business associate of Hunter Biden has told Congress that President Biden was aware of his son’s business dealings and even discussed the “broad contours” of those arrangements after he left the White House in 2017. The associate says that Biden family members “sold” the elder Mr. Biden’s name to foreign entities for tens of millions of dollars, dangling the prospect of access to the family patriarch.

Noah is right that the Oversight Committee Democrats’ defense of Hunter is frivolous. They claim that since the subpoena demanded Hunter’s appearance for testimony and since he showed up yesterday claiming to be prepared to testify, the contempt is “cured” (meaning, the House should deem the initial failure to comply as rectified by subsequent compliance). But a contempt can conceivably be cured only by compliance with the terms of the directive that has been flouted — in this instance, an Oversight Committee subpoena. I say “conceivably” because belated compliance with a subpoena is a cure only if it would put the investigative body in the same position that it would be in if compliance had been timely. (For instance, if the delay causes investigators to lose access to evidence, then belated compliance is not a cure.)

Now you see him, now you don’t.

Hunter Biden made a surprise — and brief — appearance Wednesday at a House Oversight Committee hearing where members were debating a resolution holding him in contempt of Congress.

The first son, 53, showed up with his lawyer Abbe Lowell and “sugar brother” Kevin Morris and sat in the front row of the hearing room, causing an uproar among the panel’s Republicans, before leaving after about 10 minutes.

The man infamously known as Hunter Biden’s ‘sugar brother’ who has donated millions to the president’s son is reportedly working on a documentary to set the record straight about him.

Kevin Morris, a Hollywood lawyer who made a fortune from a South Park TV deal, was dubbed Hunter’s ‘sugar brother’ after he reportedly paid off up to $2.8 million of the First Son’s tax bill in an attempt to placate prosecutors.

Hunter Biden received a staggering $4.9 million from Morris, an IRS whistleblower claimed in December, to help cover Biden’s housing, legal fees, car payments and payments to advisors, most of which came in October 2021.

One hazard of political campaigns is the unseen junction — a key moment that nobody recognizes at the time.

Such a moment came for Democrats on April 19, via a letter to Congress about the federal probe into President Biden’s son Hunter.

Team Biden might be forgiven for ignoring the missive.
