Canadian officials shelled out millions of dollars worth of contracts to the son of a former Iranian vice president even as they were investigating allegations he helped develop missile systems for the Islamic Republic.
Mohammad Reza Ghafouri Fard, 45, founded two companies in Alberta, Edmonton under the name ‘Sal Ghafouri’ that have received more than $2 million Canadian dollars [$1,446,370] in federal contracts, including from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Department of National Defense, Global News reports.
He was even reportedly part of an official Canadian trade mission to Latin America, received a federal business grant and was invited to ‘propose legislation’ to the Alberta government.
