Canadian-funded programs in occupied Ukraine causing activists to be disappeared into Russian custody

Canadian-funded programs in occupied Ukraine accused of putting activists at risk

The Canadian government says it is taking seriously allegations that programs it funded to promote pro-Ukrainian sentiment in Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine put the lives of activists in danger.

The Kyiv Independent reported last month that a pair of Canadian-backed programs known as Yellow Ribbon and Zla Mavka had resulted in the persecution and detention of pro-Ukrainian activists in occupied parts of southern and eastern Ukraine, where Russia’s FSB security service has a heavy presence. The fate of some activists who reportedly disappeared into Russian custody remains unknown.

BBC news boss: I was driven out by trans activism

A former BBC News boss has claimed she was driven out of the top job by trans activists.

Fran Unsworth, the director of BBC News from 2018-2022, said she had been bullied out of the role by gender ideologues employed by the corporation.

Speaking for the first time since leaving the BBC, Ms Unsworth said: “I would actually say it drove me out, just dealing with the progressive editorial issues and the bullying around them all. It was incredibly difficult.”

Archaeologists Find Egyptian Mummy Buried With the ‘Iliad’

Archaeologists Find Egyptian Mummy Buried With the ‘Iliad’

Archaeologists working in Egypt have discovered a remarkable combination of Homeric epic and Egyptian ritual: a 2,000-year-old mummy with a papyrus fragment of the “Iliad” sealed in a clay packet outside its wrappings.

It is the first time a literary work has been found playing a functional, spiritual role in the mummification process. And it suggests that for a Roman-era Egyptian, the “Iliad” — specifically some lines from Book 2’s “Catalogue of Ships” — was perhaps as crucial for navigating the afterlife as a magical spell.

Big library fine I bet.

US Secretary of State Official Weighs In on stupid woke Canadian University DEI Complaint ruling

US Secretary of State Official Weighs In on stupid woke Canadian University DEI Complaint ruling

U.S. Under Secretary of State Sarah Rogers has again spoken out on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies in Canada, this time commenting on a tribunal ruling that found views opposing “systemic racism” theories are not grounded in political or legal principles.

The decision involves a Simon Fraser University political science professor who was denied a job because he did not support DEI.

The B.C. human rights tribunal decided against holding a hearing on the issue last month. Adjudicator Devyn Cousineau said in her April 15 ruling that the educator had no reasonable likelihood of proving that he was denied the position because of his political views, because opposition to DEI did not constitute a political stance under the law.

More than half of comments removed from Alto’s high-speed rail map to be reinstated

More than half of comments removed from Alto’s high-speed rail map to be reinstated

More than half of the 118 comments removed by moderators from a map showing possible routes for Canada’s proposed high-speed rail project should never have been taken down, according to Alto.

The Crown corporation behind the project now says a total of 71 posts made by members of the public will be added back to the map by the end of this week.

Those posts included two comments — one made by a teenager worried about his home, the other by an 84-year-old who had concerns about Canadian agriculture — that were already reinstated after CBC raised questions about why they had been pulled down.

Chicago drug store closure is another case study in Leftist failure

Chicago drug store closure is another case study in Leftist failure

Walgreens is shuttering a location in Chicago, upsetting residents, and stirring fury among exploitative and complicit politicians. The way some local “leaders” tell it, the drugstore chain is acting greedily, selfishly, or even criminally.

“Walgreens should be charged with first-degree corporate abandonment,” thundered a local alderman. “It should be a crime, the way they’re treating our elders. It should be a crime, the way they’re treating our families.”

Pilot program for transgender refugees allows them to change identity, name on arrival

Pilot program for transgender refugees allows them to change identity, name on arrival

The Immigration department is piloting a program allowing transgender refugees to change their gender and name as soon as they arrive in Canada without having to clear the usual administrative hurdles, to ensure they are not retraumatized.

In a bid to align refugee policy with government policies supporting members of the LGBTQ community, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is allowing transgender refugees to bypass long waits in Canada to formally change identity.

The UN is picking our “refugees” and of course the Carney government plays right along.
