Osama bin Laden’s son, expelled from France over a tweet deemed to have glorified terrorism, has been barred from returning to the country.
Omar bin Laden, 43, lived in a village in Normandy with his British wife, Zaina al-Sabah bin Laden, for seven years painting landscapes until he was expelled last year. The fourth son of the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, he now lives in Qatar.
The Department of Canadian Heritage is being told that more than half of the 550 names on the Memorial to the Victims of Communism should be removed because of potential links to the Nazis or questions about affiliations with fascist groups, according to government records.
As originally planned, there were to be 553 entries on the Ottawa memorial’s Wall of Remembrance.

The Royal New Zealand Navy has lost its first ship to the sea since World War Two, after one of its vessels ran aground off the coast of Samoa.
HMNZS Manawanui, a specialist diving and ocean imaging ship, came into trouble about one nautical mile from the island of Upolu on Saturday night local time, while conducting a survey of a reef.
It later caught fire before capsizing.
All 75 crew and passengers onboard were safely rescued overnight. Two people needed hospital treatment for minor injuries, one with a dislocated shoulder and another with a hurt back.

Saudi Arabia has reached a record high for executions despite pledges to cut down the death penalty.
There have been some 208 deaths so far in 2024, eclipsing the 2022 record of 196, 81 in a single day.
The executions have been carried out under reformist Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who has overseen at least 1,447 executions carried out since he was made Crown Prince to his elderly father, Salman, in 2015.
