Swedish government says Stockholm mosque used by Iran for spying

STOCKHOLM, Feb 3 (Reuters) – Sweden’s government on Monday accused a Shi’ite Muslim mosque in Stockholm of being a platform for Iranian spying against Sweden and the Iranian diaspora.

Sweden’s Minister for Social Affairs said on X that the Swedish Security Service assessed that the Imam Ali Islamic Center in Stockholm was used by Iran as a platform to spy and conduct activities threatening security.

“This is extremely serious,” Jakob Forssmed said, and added that Sweden had stopped all state monetary aid to the centre. He added, without elaborating, that “an additional process” was under way.

And the Swedes were funding the mosque. Talk about an own goal.

Uproar as left-wing French councils teach staff to talk to plants

Left-wing councils are under fire for sending staff on courses where they pretend to be trees, bats, fish and other “non-human living things” to understand the “connection between species”.

Those on the right are incredulous, arguing that taxpayers’ money is being wasted teaching functionaries to speak to plants. But the courses have been defended by environmentalists who say that officials need to learn empathy and inclusivity, especially in light of climate change.

RICHMOND, B.C. — Vancouver-based birth tourism operator Liga Lin says her phone has been buzzing with inquiries from expectant mothers since U.S. President Donald Trump moved to end American birthright citizenship.

Lin’s business, New Joy Postpartum Care, arranges accommodation and services for non-resident women — mostly from mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong — who want to give birth in Canada, granting their children automatic citizenship rights.

The industry also exists in the U.S., but Trump’s executive order seeking to end the right to citizenship at birth on American soil has thrown it into disarray, even as the measure was blocked by a U.S. district court judge who called it “blatantly unconstitutional.”

We are a doormat nation thanks to Trudeau.

Anheuser-Busch InBev, for $16 million worth of airtime in Super Bowl LIX, is pandering hard to men who were once their core consumers. The 60-second commercial is shameless, all but begging “bros” to forget Bud’s partnering with a trans influencer in 2023 and Make Bud Light Great Again.

“Big Men on Cul-de-Sac know how to get the party started,” Bud Light wrote with a post of their commercial on X, “and that’s exactly what they’re doing.” The accompanying video has been viewed more than 825,000 times and has people talking. What they’re saying, however, doesn’t speak of success.

And very few cuss words was spoken

Whenever I had to assemble furniture Kath would always warn anyone within earshot that “There will be cursing”.

And there usually was. Tonight only a few crossed my lips as I worked on an Ikea cabinet kit. The Great Sort dictated the addition of sensible storage.

Xavier was a danger to us both being simultaneously curious and fearful of the “new stuff” while getting underfoot in hazardous fashion.

Funny thing. My knee has been acting up for the past week or so and I thought I might be pushing it to assemble the cabinet tonight. Oddly all pain disappeared once immersed and only a minor ache persists.

Thank you all for listening to my gibbering and yes assembling Ikea cabinets late on a Sunday evening is a bit odd I suppose.

Air traffic control staffing ‘not normal’ during DC crash – officials

Air traffic control staffing was “not normal” at the time of a mid-air collision between a military helicopter and passenger plane in Washington, DC that killed 67 people, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has acknowledged.

US media reported that Reagan National Airport tower was understaffed during Wednesday’s crash, according to a government report.

One air traffic control worker was managing helicopters and some planes from the airport, a job normally done by two people, two sources told CBS News, the BBC’s US news partner.

Gun control activist and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting survivor David Hogg was elected on Saturday to serve as the vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

Hogg, who received 214.5 votes, was elected to serve as the vice chair of the DNC the same day that Minnesota state party chairman Ken Martin was selected to serve as the chairman of the DNC.
