Campaign Puts Trump and the Spy Agencies on Collision Course

Even as president, Donald J. Trump flaunted his animosity for intelligence officials, portraying them as part of a politicized “deep state” out to get him. And since he left office, that loathing has grown into outright hostility, with potentially serious implications for national security should he be elected again.

Citing his belief that his 2016 campaign had been spied on by the intelligence community, Mr. Trump on Wednesday urged his House allies to “kill” a bill that would extend an expiring surveillance law that national security officials say is crucial to their ability to gather foreign intelligence and fight terrorism on behalf of the country. House Republicans agreed to move the legislation ahead on Friday only after revising it to ensure that Mr. Trump would get another crack at shaping it to his liking if he wins the presidency again.

For International Fact-Checking Day on April 2, Eric Litke, the leader of the USA Today fact-checking squad, asked who should be fact-checking the fact checkers? His answer: “Everyone.” He argued: “Proper fact-checking requires critical thinking, deep reporting, precise writing and an obsession with fairness. But most importantly, it requires transparency.”

Fani Willis, the embattled District Attorney for Fulton County, Ga., appears to be fighting hard to stay on her case against former President Donald Trump. She recently filed a motion that reflects her unhinged desperation to prevent an appeals court from revisiting Judge Scott McAfee’s ludicrous decision that permitted her to remain involved in the case as long as she fired her lover, Nathan Wade.

On Monday, April 15, President Donald Trump will become the first former president and the first major presidential candidate in American history to face a criminal trial. Not only is this unprecedented, it’s happening with one of the weakest criminal cases in recent memory.

Donald Trump is Hitler. I know it’s true because I saw it on MSNBC, Rachel Maddow said it. She wouldn’t lie, would she? Not only that, the President of the United States said it, and he wouldn’t lie, would he? Of course they would, it’s what they do. But more than the fact that they would is the fact that they have to. Democrats have soiled the sheets – taking the country from a booming economy to one where you can’t walk out of a grocery store for less than $80 is something so horrible you almost have to try to do it. You can’t run on that level of incompetence, so you have to try to convince people that the other guy is somehow worse. Since there is no unit of measure by which the economy under Donald Trump was worse than it is under Joe Biden, lying is absolutely required.

Every night since August 2022, a small crowd has gathered outside the Washington DC Central Jail, through frigid winter nights and under spring rain, to protest against the US justice system.

The protesters outside the red-brick buildings of the facility pray, discuss the news, and broadcast telephone calls with prisoners inside the jail, where hundreds of accused or convicted rioters have been held in the three years since the 6 January 2021 storming of the Capitol.

In recent months, as Donald Trump has gripped the Republican Party’s presidential nomination, the protesters have taken heart from the ex-president’s vocal public support for those who attacked Congress.

It’s the right thing to do.

It has become a cornerstone of the Democrats’ presidential campaign: if Donald Trump returns to the White House, 2024 will be the last election. Trump, goes the claim, will set himself up as a dictator, and Amerikkka will finally become the fascist state that leftists have been claiming it was on the verge of being ever since an upstart has-been actor named Ronald Reagan threw his hat in the ring. This claim is not only absurd; it’s a classic case of projection. The American republic (it’s not a democracy, kids) is indeed in serious danger, but the danger is coming from those who are claiming that they are trying to save it from Trump.

On Thursday, March 28th, Donald Trump attended the wake of a New York police officer who had been killed in the line of duty. That same day, Democrat President Joe Biden was joined by two former Democrat presidents, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, at a fundraiser where attendees had to pony up $500,000 to get in the door.

The stark difference between the two events illustrates with painful clarity the divide that has gradually emerged in American society over the past 30 years. It is a divide between an increasingly arrogant elite and the American people they look down their noses at with contempt in their eyes. 

Special Counsel Jack Smith’s efforts to imprison Donald Trump for mishandling classified documents have hit a few snags recently, and the latest snag is, indeed, a big one.

New York Attorney General Letitia James is facing mounting pressure to prosecute comedian Jon Stewart after it was revealed that he overvalued his Manhattan home — the same so-called “offense” for which James is prosecuting former President Donald Trump.

Amidst all the liberal outrage over NBC’s hiring of Ronna McDaniel, CNN offered an example this morning of what passes for a perfectly acceptable revolving-door hire.

CNN commentator Ashley Allison was on a CNN This Morning panel to discuss Trump’s hawking of a God Bless America Bible.

Over there on YouTube, podcaster Patrick bet-David is of the opinion that, like Rome, American civilization is on the verge of collapse due to strife and corruption.

In 100 years, at this rate, we will be rubble. Like that movie “Planet of the Apes,” where the only thing left standing is the Statue of Liberty.

Ravaged by mendacity and domestic squabbles, this future is coming, if not for ourselves, then for our kids.

True…and for me, nothing says strife and corruption like Trump derangement syndrome.

CNN’s Dana Bash took time on Friday’s edition of Inside Politics to discuss some of the network’s latest polling data that showed Donald Trump with a 20-point lead over Joe Biden on who would do a better job on the issue of Israel and Gaza. Bash simply couldn’t believe as she scoffed that “the world is upside down.”

President Trump’s brief to the Supreme Court, arguing that the president “cannot function, and the Presidency itself cannot retain its vital independence, if the President faces criminal prosecution for official acts once he leaves office,” is his most fulsome statement yet on the powers of the office he once held.

The 67-page filing lays out the 45th president’s position on immunity in advance of oral arguments at the high court. It declares that a “denial of criminal immunity would incapacitate every future President with de facto blackmail and extortion while in office, and condemn him to years of post-office trauma at the hands of political opponents.”
