At a press conference late last week, Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) CEO Rick Leary avoided justifying a memo sent to staff in January of 2021 ordering that arrest be the action of last resort with those displaying unlawful acts on the transit system.
His response, however, confirms the “hug-a-thug, anti-enforcement” attitude he demanded from his safety constables over the past few years.

The city knows what’s happening. Toronto’s police chief, the mayor, transit bosses all sense it. They see it rumbling on a grey horizon. So do the wags of Twitter, daily commuters, and out of towners now thinking twice.
It’s fear. Broad, public fear.
A lot of the blame is due to White Liberal Guilt.
They really only have one answer to every situation – throw money at a problem until the squeaky wheels are silenced, rinse and repeat.
There’s a whole eco-system of experts and community based whatevers reliant on tax payer dollars.
And they always need more money. And they always get it. And the problems only ever get worse. And no one ever asks why.
It’s not going to get better. Mass-Immigration will cram in still more bodies.
Crime will only rise. Ghettoization and Tribal No Go Zones will be the fruit of our diversity. Get strong you’ll need it.
It’s no wonder so many have not returned to work downtown. What’s the draw exactly?

I can hear the screams and watch the dazed wanderings of the mentally ill dumped out at Kipling Station.
Taxes will increase, services will decrease, businesses will relocate.
You can expect White Flight to gain considerable momentum given the city is funding a race war against them.
At least that’ll take care of the White Liberal Guilt problem paving the way for vibrant new leadership and interesting times galore.
On a Queen streetcar Wednesday, a man boarded near Bay Street at the centre doors. He had a long scraggly beard and wore a grubby army surplus coat, a bulging plastic garbage bag slung over his shoulder.
He was giggling, loudly, for no apparent reason. For longer than a minute.
“Heeeheeeheeheeeheee!” His voice echoed off the windows and walls, and many passengers let their eyes dart in his direction, then exchanged glances with each other.
Was this something to be concerned about? Or just another day on the TTC? Or are those now the same thing?

Some 40 years after their first try, the Guardian Angels are being lobbied to ride back into crime-ridden Toronto again.
“I am getting phone calls,” said founder Curtis Sliwa.
I don’t understand the complaints about crime, homelessness and urban decay, Toronto is getting the city they voted for.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford says the boost in police officers on Toronto transit in the wake of recent violence is a “Band-Aid solution” and is calling for the city to hire more police officers.
The premier’s comments come a day after police announced more than 80 officers would, in a paid overtime capacity, be at Toronto Transit Commission locations to reduce victimization, prevent crimes of opportunity and enhance public safety. The move follows a series of violent cases on the TTC, including stabbings, BB gun shootings and an alleged swarming.

… She is against the big boost to the police budget just announced by Toronto’s mayor, John Tory. She’d like to see the money spent on shelter beds, mental-health supports and help for troubled young people instead.
But she is convinced things are going wrong in her city.

The vulnerability of public spaces, as wide as a subway platform, as narrow as a crosstown bus. A TTC shelter, a busy station in the middle of the day, a desolate station in the small hours of the night.

“I suggest you guys call customer service and maybe put in a complaint or two – maybe you should even call the mayor’s office and give him a piece of your mind because that’s probably your best option at this point. I have no control over this.”

“There are people who are timid about the drawing a connection between some of the incidents we’re seeing and mental health. I’m not timid about that,” Tory said. “Because in the end, if you see someone push someone onto the tracks of the subway that is not known to them or a random person, you see someone — an elderly person – get pushed out on the street and lost their life by a complete stranger, those are incidents that are evidence of some issues out there that people have with mental health.”

TTC workers and passengers are like sitting ducks.
It’s time to call it for what it is: Toronto’s transit system has spun off the rails when it comes to protecting people.
The TTC is a homeless shelter. I don’t see it getting better.
Toronto is a Liberal-Left city and they seem to have a knack for rapid urban decay.
I used to say that Toronto was an iced cake that was rotten inside.
Now the icing is rotten too.
Is Toronto tops when it comes to global visitors?
Well, it ranked somewhere near the middle on a list of 85 of the world’s most overrated cities by independent market analyst King Casino Bonus in the U.K.
No question Toronto is a cold city and that will only get worse as ghettoization continues.
You can’t escape the feeling the city is on the threshold of a US style urban decline.
City infrastructure is crumbling and everything has that shopworn look.
The TTC now operates as a homeless shelter.
The question is not can I hold on but why should I?
Boring and pretentious? Yup.
Expensive? You bet.
But think of the restaurants.
TORONTO — Police in Toronto say two transit workers have been injured following a report that close to a dozen youths attacked them on a bus Monday afternoon.

Toronto Mayor John Tory said in a statement about the incident that acts of violence and disrespect against transit workers need to end, and that he’s very concerned about what he said was the “increasing number of criminal acts involving young people.”
“I encourage anyone with information to help police find those responsible for this attack so they can face consequences for their behaviour,” Tory said.
“I strongly believe this is something all governments have to work together to urgently address with social and mental health experts.”

It will be up to a coroner to determine how an elderly woman died before Toronto Police decide whether to turn this case over to Homicide detectives.
In the meantime, police have a man in custody being investigated for aggravated assault — but any pending charge could potentially be upgraded as the investigation unfolds and cause of death is determined.

Toronto is one of the worst cities in the world for traffic, according to a new report issued by a traffic analytics company.
The report, published by INRIX this month, draws on four years of mobility and anonymized GPS probe data to identify traffic patterns in various cities across the world.
Toronto was ranked seventh globally in the world and first in Canada for worst traffic, with commuters losing an average of 118 hours on Greater Toronto Area roads and highways to congestion in 2022.
