Married Toronto mayor, 68, resigns over affair with staffer, 31, but blames ‘mistake’ on pressure of COVID as he begs for forgiveness from his wife of 40-years

Toronto Mayor John Tory abruptly resigned late Friday after admitting to an extramarital affair with a 31-year-old former staffer.

The 68-year-old Canadian politician was caught in the messy affair with a woman less than half his age who worked as a mayoral advisor. The woman’s name has not been revealed, but their relationship reportedly ignited during the COVID-19 pandemic and was made public by The Toronto Star.

During a news conference, Tory admitted to the betrayal but did not identify his ex-lover, their courtship ended earlier this year. He said the employee has since left City Hall.

… On Saturday morning, Ford thanked Tory, whom he referred to as a friend, for his “many years of public service” and wished him “nothing but the best in the days, weeks and months ahead.”

“John will be remembered as a dedicated and hard-working mayor who served as a steady leader during the most difficult days of the pandemic,” Ford said. “He united Toronto behind an optimistic vision for the future and I will miss working with him to see it come to life.”

The Pandemic Puta used to work for the CPC until Scheer was voted leader, it appears she is well versed in politics, an excellent communicator and proficient at oral presentations.

Two kinds of rules govern city life: written and unwritten. The written kind lays out the rules in black and white. You can’t run a red light, throw your trash in the park or steal your neighbour’s lawn mower.

The second, unwritten kind is greyer – more shouldn’ts than can’ts. You shouldn’t take up two seats on a crowded bus or cut someone off in traffic. Put another way, you should treat those around you with at least a minimum of decency.

Toronto is a hateful town, lots of reasons why.

John Tory, a 68-year-old born-and-bred Torontonian and member of the city’s business and political elite, resigned as its mayor on Friday after admitting to an inappropriate relationship with a staffer.

Tory was born into a successful family with a major law firm, Torys, founded by his grandfather.

His father, John A. Tory, worked at the firm, but later moved on to work with the Thomson family to run their financial holding company. His father also served on the board of directors of Rogers Communications.

With the sudden resignation of Toronto Mayor John Tory in scandal, Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie will be the interim mayor. The environmental geoscientist has represented Scarborough-Rouge Park since 2018, and was named deputy mayor after last fall’s election.

But it is also likely that ambitious and better-known pols are suddenly looking at their political prospects in a post-Tory Toronto, where a new mayor will be chosen in a by-election.

Someone wanted Tory gone.

The ususal suspects on the far left of course, maybe family or maybe someone at MLSE was pissed off that that the Pandemic Puta landed a cushy sinecure there thanks to “Daddy.”

It’s possible she won the position solely on merit and it had nothing to do with Mayor Tory’s grandfatherly mentorship.

I also have to wonder if Tory’s Puta Pal puts MLSE in the same spot the city was in regarding #MeToo liability given Tory is still linked to the Rogers family trust which holds a stake in MLSE.

I once worked in an environment where a Puta was sleeping her way to the top. It went from a good place to an ugly place to work in short order.

Love him or hate him there is far worse waiting in the wings. San Francisco here we come.

John Tory got that rarest of things in politics — a second chance — and he threw it away.

According to the Rochman Lab at the University of Toronto, the city generated 15,785 tons of litter in 2020, the majority of which was leakage from a poorly functioning waste management system, including trash that just didn’t make it securely into a garbage can.
