For many years now, Israelis have been told that the biggest threat to the survival of the Jewish state is Iran’s quest to obtain nuclear weapons.

But another long-term trend could be eroding the foundations of Israel’s security: a generational decline in western voters’ support and sympathy for the Jewish state.

Public attitudes toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict have seen dramatic swings following dramatic events. A Gallup poll conducted for Newsweek in 1982, just days after the massacre of hundreds of Palestinian civilians in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps of Beirut, registered a 17 per cent crash in Americans’ support for Israel.

If there is ever a time that calls for clear moral leadership, a moment in which evil acts committed by evil men should be unambiguously denounced, it’s when innocents are targeted by violence, at home and abroad.

Yet this is apparently too much to ask of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, whose wishy-washy statements about attacks perpetrated against Canadian Jews and commitment to false equivalencies about the Israel-Hamas War show he is more interested in appeasing certain voting blocs than defending the values he purportedly stands for.

Calgary police say that during a rally on Sunday a man took to the stage to speak to the large crowd in attendance and that he repeatedly used an antisemitic phrase while encouraging the crowd to follow along.

After consultation with the Calgary Police Service hate crimes coordinator, the man was charged with causing a disturbance and hate motivation has been applied to the charge.

On Tuesday, police announced Wesam Cooley was charged following the Sunday protests supporting Israel and Palestinians.

Seems destined to fail.

France’s most infamous antisemite is back in the headlines. At the weekend, the president of the National Rally, Jordan Bardella, declared in an interview that he didn’t believe Jean-Marie Le Pen was an antisemite. This came as a surprise to many given that the ninety-five-year-old Le Pen, who founded the National Front in 1972, has been condemned on six occasions by French courts for just such bigotry.

A global information battle is underway—and the Jewish state is losing.

Israel’s war with Hamas is part of a more extensive information war with a global, networked tribe. Israel is losing that larger struggle. You can gauge the status of this long war in the results of a recent poll (one of many that say the same thing), taken just after the October 7 terrorist attack. Asked whether Israel’s response to the Hamas attack was fully justified, 81 percent of Americans over age 65 said that it was; for those aged 50–64, 56 percent agreed; ages 35–49, 44 percent; and for ages 18–34, only 27 percent agreed.

Fake news had been spread that Gal Gadot would host the Museum of Tolerance screening. (She was not even there.) And that Hollywood celebrities would be there. (They were not.) The actual attendees were mostly Jewish and activist community figures.

“The animating force behind this schizophrenic rhetorical divide is the practice of dividing up the world into teams based on notions of who has “power,” which comes in a set number of forms: being wealthy, being able-bodied, being male, being “cis.” More than any other source, power comes from being “white.” In other words, it’s fine if we burn you or your children alive, or cheer on those who do; if you criticize us, that’s an inherently unjust and damaging exercise of power, because we have defined you as being “white.”

Not according to the ADL.

A majority of Canadians favour Canada’s support for Israel in its war with Hamas, which most respondents classify as a terrorist organization, according to a new poll for the National Council of Canadian Muslims.

That’s great but the only “support” Trudeau will care about comes on election day from 2 million Muslims versus 350,000 Jews.

And I find the number of respondents calling for a “ceasefire” suspect.

Professor Alan Dershowitz is one of Israel’s most prominent defenders outside the Jewish state. He has just written — in record time — a book about the events of October 7: War Against the Jews — How to End Hamas Barbarism. It will be published next month and will argue, among other things, that the Hamas attack “has required Israel to consider its nuclear option as a last resort to assure its survival.” I spoke to Professor Dershowitz and asked him first, about another of the book’s arguments, that there should be no absolute distinction between civilians and combatants in Gaza, but instead “a continuum of civilianality.”

The left-wing college monoculture helps explain why students support Hamas.

Shortly after Hamas launched its attack on Israel, a coalition of more than 30 student groups at Harvard released a now-infamous statement blaming Israel for Hamas’s brutality. “We, the undersigned student organizations,” the statement read, “hold the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence.”

ABC, CBS, and NBC all covered Wednesday morning the bipartisan censure of far-left Congresswoman and Squad member Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) for her deep-seated hatred of Israel and anti-Semitic rhetoric, most recently posting a video with pro-Hamas supporters chanting “from the river to the sea.”

But while they noted the dangerous rhetoric, they tried to equivocate with plenty of “both sides” talk about the Israel-Hamas war and fretting the vote made for “[d]ramatic and emotional scenes” with Tlaib giving “an impassioned speech” while having “fought back tears.”
