Israel says it has arrested 200 members of the Hamas and Islamic Jihad groups in the past week and taken them into its territory for questioning.
A statement said some of the suspects had been hiding among the civilian population and surrendered voluntarily.

More Americans support sending further military aid to Ukraine than to Israel, according to a Quinnipiac poll published on Wednesday.
Net support for increased funding for Israel has dipped underwater, with 45% backing and 46% opposing the measure. A month earlier, the same pollster found that 54% of Americans supported further aid, with 39% opposing. Meanwhile, the corresponding figures for sending further military aid to Ukraine are currently 55% and 38%.

Guest host J.P. Tasker made the statement during a recent episode of CBC’s Power & Politics, a weekday show that focuses on national politics.
In responding to a clip from the show shared on X, Power & Politics said the statement was the result of “a teleprompter glitch that cut off part of the prepared script.”
It added that the script read: “‘That’s just the latest protest taking place in Canada, since Israel declared war on Hamas following the October attacks that left 12-hundred dead.’ The error was not intentional.”

Any pro-Palestine demonstrators attending the promised “shut down” of Christmas planned for this weekend have been warned taking it inside shopping malls could be met with police enforcement.
… “We respect people’s charter rights, and we are always present to facilitate demonstrations that are lawful,” Pogue said at a news conference Friday morning on the eve of a Dec. 23 protest that is calling for a “shut down” and a Dec. 24, Christmas Eve, plan to have thousands of people on highway overpasses and sidewalks.

When there are no longer Jews in Europe, will they call Hamas to light the Hanukkah candles?
The Jewish celebration of Hanukkah in the Dutch city of Enschede took a strange turn, after the mayor refused to be seen near the Israeli ambassador. The Enschede synagogue had invited mayor Roelof Bleker to the Hanukkah celebration and reserved a seat for Bleker next to the Israeli ambassador, Modi Ephraim. But a few hours earlier, the synagogue received a phone call from Bleker with some preconditions. “The mayor did not want to sit next to the ambassador and did not want to shake his hand.”
US President Joe Biden has gone out of his way — and it is enormously appreciated! — to stand by America’s ally Israel, defending itself from being further attacked by Hamas and other Iranian proxy groups in the region. The Biden administration has sent warships to the region, materiel to counter the more than 9,500 rockets and missiles fired at Israel since October 7, aimed at the cities of a country roughly the size of New Jersey. It is bewildering that he has come under so much unjust criticism for supporting a country that is basically also fighting for the US and the Free World against a terrorist group, Hamas, that apparently sees nothing wrong with burning babies alive, beheading them, raping and torturing men, women and children and then murdering them.
Sadly however, by reportedly demanding that Israel reduce its efforts to confront the Iran-backed terrorist group by January 1, Biden, presumably to help his reelection campaign, is seriously undermining Israel’s efforts. Such a curtailment would make it as difficult as possible — and risky — for Israel to fight what is already an extremely complicated war in complex urban areas, where Hamas has deeply embedded its weapons within the civilian population.

These are just some of the many instances across Canada in which employees and students have faced firings, suspensions or calls for them to not be hired based on their publicly stated political stance on the Israel-Hamas war. It’s a trend that has been reported not just in Canada but also in the U.S. and Europe, and across various industries, including media, law, health care and the service sector.
