For anyone mistakenly believing the latest United Nations global gabfest on climate change in Baku, Azerbaijan was all about saving the planet, it was in fact all about money.
This annual 11-day meeting, although it always goes into overtime — formally known as COP29 or the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change — was always about money, specifically about redistributing money from developed countries like Canada to developing nations.
It is the global climate-change conference that no one cares about. The latest United Nations (UN) ‘conference of the parties’, otherwise known as COP29, is currently being hosted in oil-rich, authoritarian Azerbaijan. Not many political heavy-hitters have decided to attend but assorted elites, grifters and media have attended hoping it will bring them more financial manna from heaven.
IN AUGUST, the BBC published a news item about a Canadian worker killed by two polar bears.
The article claimed: ‘There are about 17,000 polar bears living in the country – making up around two-thirds of the global population of the species, according to the Canadian government. The species is in decline, and scientists attribute it to the loss of sea ice caused by global warming – leading to shrinking of their hunting and breeding grounds.’

Back to Biblical times and beyond, great floods and storms were the promised punishments for those who sinned against the fashionable orthodoxies and beliefs. It is of course a natural go-to for modern day prophets of climate doom. Needless to say, inconvenient scientific facts are unwelcome in the Latter Day Church of Net Zero, so alarmists are cautioned to stop reading here. The rest of us can digest recent research by Paul Homewood on the British climate in 2023 and published by the Global Warming Policy Foundation. This notes that sea level rises are showing no acceleration over multi-decadal scales and rainfall is not becoming more extreme, while storms have become less powerful over recent years.

Private jet arrivals at Baku’s international airport have soared in the past week as world leaders and business people jet in for Cop29.
The annual UN climate conference, held this year in the oil-rich capital of Azerbaijan, has become a magnet for the rich and powerful who rub shoulders with politicians and diplomats.
Data from FlightRadar24, the tracking website, revealed that 65 private jets landed in Baku in the week to Monday. Of those, 45 arrived on Sunday and Monday as the conference got under way.
‘Oil and gas are a gift from God… The people need them.’
Surprisingly, these remarks were not made by US president-elect Donald Trump, waxing lyrical about the joys of ‘the liquid gold’ on a three-hour podcast. No, these were actually the words of the host of COP29 – delivered at this year’s United Nations climate summit.
In contrast to President Trump’s chaotic first-term transition, the second Trump administration has the chance to be disciplined when it comes into office on January 20, 2025. Some of the Biden administration’s most pernicious policies were enacted, not through Congress, but via executive orders and other non-legislative maneuvers. That means the Trump team can reverse many of those policies using the same procedures. It should do so immediately upon taking office.
The mega-rich are using private jets like taxis, warn climate scientists who tracked flights to calculate the planet-warming gases they release.
The scientists worked out that the carbon dioxide emissions, which contribute to climate change, rose by 46% between 2019 and 2023.
Researchers traced all private flights globally, including summer weekend trips to Ibiza, Spain and travel to the Fifa World Cup and the UN climate conference in Dubai.
These would be the same folks who want you to give up your car and take public transit – for the environment.
Is there a natural resource project being built somewhere in Canada? Does it overlap with the title land, reserve lands, or other jurisdictions of a First Nation? If so, expect green NGOs to turn it into another dramatic episode so they can keep fundraising.
Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault and his department have finally decided what is the greatest threat to Canada’s ecology.
It’s not your SUV spewing emissions from its tailpipe as you idle it absentmindedly in your driveway. Nor is it the oilsands or new pipelines or oceangoing tankers full of crude. The Left wants to blame Republicans for the environmentalism-induced mental-health woes afflicting many young people.
Time magazine has discovered the real cause of the mental-health epidemic of “climate anxiety” that is affecting America’s youth: Republicans.
One would think that the person whom Time trusts to argue that Republicans are to blame for this very real mental-health crisis would be an expert in climatology, atmospheric sciences, or geology. Instead, the author Jerel Ezell, according to his website, is a “social epidemiologist,” visual artist, and professor of “community health sciences” at the University of California, Berkeley, . . . because of course he/him is.
Last Thursday, the Ontario Court of Appeal ruled that it’s possible for the province’s climate plan to violate the Charter rights of Ontarians — namely, the equality rights of young people, and the right to life, liberty and security of all.
It’s a lesson for conservatives on the futility of compromising with progressives: if you try meet your opponents half way, expect the (also progressive) courts to make you go all the way.
