OTTAWA — The United States’ ambassador in Ottawa says Canada might be conducting “election interference” ahead of his country’s midterm votes in November, and warns the American government “will respond” if it concludes Canada is meddling in U.S. politics.
The U.S. embassy posted a video Wednesday morning of remarks that Ambassador Pete Hoekstra made during a recent appearance on The Really Big Show.
In the video, Hoekstra says the U.S. government is “closely watching Canadian activities, because it appears that some of this — from our perspective, and the way that we view our elections — could be inferred to be election interference.”
