Montreal refugee advocates say they are hearing from a growing number of Haitians in the United States who are considering coming to Canada after the Trump administration moved to end deportation protections for hundreds of thousands of people.
“They’re real stressed. They don’t go out. They stay in their apartment,” said Thierry Jean-Baptiste of the Bureau de la communauté haïtienne de Montréal (BCHM).
“They order groceries. They are in fear of ICE.”
